OLLV Catholic School

2021-2022

Big picture

Be it known to all who enter here, that Christ is the reason for this school. He is the unseen, but ever present teacher in the classrooms, the model of its faculty, and the inspiration of its students.

School-Wide Learning Expectation of The Week: Culturally Aware/Global Citizens who Respect Themselves and Others

By the time our 8th-grade students graduate from Our Lady of Las Vegas, they should be able to demonstrate a high level of reverence for themselves and others.

This week will emphasize the importance of being reverent during appropriate times.

WCEA School Accreditation

Today, teachers and faculty met to discuss the Accreditation document as a team. We worked on Catholic Identity, Data Analysis, SLE's and Standards, and Instructional Methodology.

Calendar Update: No School For Students On November 5

In order to further prepare for WCEA Accreditation, Friday, November 5th, will be another WCEA Work Day instead of a half-day.

Pumpkin Drive

The Student Council will be collecting pumpkins from October 13-18th for Berkley Bunker Title I Kindergarten class, who weren't able to experience a field trip to the Gilcrease Orchard this year.

The Berkley Bunker Title I School will be holding a Harvest Festival soon, and we have the chance to give children their very own pumpkin to decorate!

When an OLLV student donates a pumpkin, they will receive a pumpkin sticker to put into their class’s “patch.” The classes (PreK-4th and 5th-8th) with the most pumpkins donated will receive 30 minutes of extra recess for their class!

We will be accepting small and medium pumpkins, please do not bring large ones!

Youth Soccer Challenge Competition

All boys and girls ages 9-14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for 2021 Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge. The local competition will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, 3:30 – 5:00 PM on the OLLV Soccer Field. In the event of inclement weather an alternate date is set for Wednesday, October 20, 2017, 3:30 – 5:30 PM on the OLLV Soccer Field.

The Soccer Challenge consists of 15 penalty kicks (three practice kicks are given prior to the first completion kick). Points will be awarded depending upon the area of the scoring zones through which the ball passes. Normal rules of soccer regarding penalty kicks apply for all levels of competition. Penalty kick violations including stepping on or over the line prior to the kick, and any contact made with the ball counts as a kick.

The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. International champions are announced by the K of C international headquarters in New Haven, CT, based on scores from the state-level competitions. All boys and girls 9 to 14 years-old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. Entry forms for this event will be available at the competition site. For additional information contact: K of C Saint Jude Council #9102, SK Daniel Barry, phone 702-812-0015 or email danbarry@cox.net.

The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic family fraternal organization, with approximately 2 million members in over 15,000 local councils. Last year, Knights donated 70 million hours and $170 million to charitable and benevolent causes, sponsoring projects to benefit their Church, communities, councils, Culture of Life, families and youth.

Please come to the front office to pick up your application and permission slip.

October: Month of the Rosary

We are excited to be celebrating Christ’s love with the Rosary each morning at 7:55 AM after the morning broadcast. Though we are not able to do it in the courtyard, we will be praying together virtually as a school community. Please have your children bring their Rosary each day.

Lunches

If a student forgets their lunch, we will always provide them with lunch! Please know that the first time a student forgets their lunch, that a one-time courtesy lunch will be provided. Each additional lunch that OLLV provides for your student will be a $5 charge in FACTS.

Outerwear

Fall time is here! Please make sure that you send your child to school with a jacket or sweater. In the classroom, students are only permitted to wear an OLLV sweatshirt or sweater with logo; however, when students go out to recess/lunch they are encouraged to wear a coat to stay warm.
