Teacher/Staff Appreciation
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is May 3rd- 7th. As you know, every member of our staff is working harder than ever this year. In addition to supporting our students' academic growth, our staff is also working so hard to support our students' individual social, emotional, and behavioral needs. All while remaining committed to our health and safety protocols to keep our community as healthy as possible!
As we prepare for Appreciation Week, I encourage you to work with your children to pick at least one member of the staff who is making a difference in their life. Then send that staff member an email, have your child draw a picture, send in a card, etc., to let them know. These small gestures take just a few minutes and mean SO MUCH to our deserving teachers, office staff, custodians, support staff, and lunch aides.
I created this Padlet as well to share positive messages or pictures with our entire staff.
End of the Year Benchmark Testing
We will begin administering our end of the year assessments this week. Our face-to-face students will be completing their assessment in person. Our virtual students will work with their teachers to complete testing at home. Make sure your child is well-rested and prepared for a day of testing! It is VERY important virtual students complete these assessments
without assistance. When parents assist with these assessments we do not get a true picture of your child's need and they may miss

6th-Grade Celebration Plans Underway
The six Fraser elementary principals have been working hard with district administration to work through the details of our 6th-Grade Celebrations. While more details will follow as soon as they're finalized, we do want to share that the drive-thru portion of the celebration at Salk is scheduled for Thursday, June 10th, between 4:30-6:00 pm. We figured our 6th-grade families - both Face-to-Face and Virtual - will want to get this date on your calendars ASAP! Stay tuned for more details to come.

ARE YOU RETURNING TO SALK IN THE FALL?
We are beginning to plan for the next school year and it is important for us to be able to project the number of students that we will have at each grade level. For planning purposes, it would help us to know whether or not each child will be retuning to Fraser in the fall. I am asking each parent/guardian to help us with this process by filling out the form below. You will only need to fill out ONE FORM per family.
Please click the button below to complete the form. We appreciate your assistance for our 2021-2022 planning.
State Testing Updates
Each spring, the State of Michigan and the US Department of Education (USDE) require us to assess students in certain subject areas through the M-STEP, PSAT and SAT. The assessments are meant to provide districts with a snapshot of student achievement at the state, district, and building levels. Individual student results will also be shared with parents.
The assessment dates for Face-to-Face students are as follows:
4th Grade
Tuesday, May 4: Math MStep
Thursday, May 6: ELA MStep
3rd Grade
Tuesday, May 11: Math MStep
Thursday, May 13 ELA MStep
Please ensure that your child is well rested on their testing day. They should come to school with a fully charged iPad and headphones/ear buds, if they have them.
Please note- We have makeup days built into our testing schedule, so if your child is exhibiting any symptoms of illness on their testing day- be sure to keep them home.
MDHHS Quarantine Updates
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has extended the time people must quarantine after COVID-19 exposure to 14 days "due to increasing case rate and variant spread," which has triggered an increased quarantine period for direct contacts to quarantine at home and monitor themselves for symptoms after exposure to an infected individual.
Click here to read the details from the MDHHS.
(Page 13 of the document refers to the changes in quarantining guidelines for direct contacts.)

As you are aware, we have had positive cases reported in the building recently. We have been asked many questions regarding how we determine who gets quarantined and what the process is. Please take a look at some of those frequently asked questions below to make sure all of our families are on the same page. Please keep in mind that the Macomb County Health Department directs all of our protocols. School Dress Code Reminders
School Dress Code Reminders
While it's still a bit inconsistent, the weather does seem to be getting warmer and more spring-like. This is a good time to remind our families about how to dress for school success. While we want to respect students' individual styles, we also need to make sure that we are maintaining a school environment that allows our focus to remain on learning.
Please remind your Seahawks to keep the following in mind as they dress for school:
- Undergarments should not be visible
- Shorts/skirts need to be about index fingertip length or longer.
- Stomachs must be covered.
- Shirts should not be revealing. Straps should be about 3-fingers wide.
- Flip flops are unsafe on the playground. Sandals may be worn but should have heel straps.
For more information about specific guidelines for our FPS Dress Code, please see our Fraser Public Schools Code of Conduct.
