Week 10, Term 3 Newsletter
Tēnā koutou katoa! Greetings everyone!
Term 3 has been an incredible journey. In fact, 2022 thus far has been a journey of complete trust and knowing the Lord would provide for our needs. And He has. God has been faithful. There is no denying we serve a loving God and His plans for each of us are good.
As today is my last day as Acting Principal I want to take this opportunity to thank the many people who have helped and supported me through these first three terms. My husband Ari and our children have endured my long hours working so I can do my best work - I’m grateful for their love and patience. Karena, our Board Chair, has encouraged me every step of the way - I’m appreciative of her time and commitment to her role and serving in our kura. Bobbie and Linda have been incredibly supportive in helping me - I’m fortunate to be able to work alongside these lovely ladies. The staff, students, whānau, and the team at KALS - I’m blessed to have been able to lead in such a time and for a season as I have and be among such a loving and supportive village of people.
But my greatest thanks, the glory and praise, is to our heavenly Father - He has been my refuge, protector, comforter, counsellor, advisor, peacemaker - you name it, He has been that for me! I could not have done this role in my own strength without Him. If you’re not walking with the Lord, I really don’t know how you can do life without Him.
I pray the school holiday break will be a time to a time to rest, take a few extra deep breaths and enjoy some downtime if you’re able to with the whānau. May the Lord bless you all, may He keep you, may His face shine upon you and be gracious to you! (Numbers 6:24-26)
Blessings,
Mrs. Tina Takimoana
Acting Principal
Verse for the week:
“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.”
Psalm 28:7
Prefect Applications 2023
Applications for Student Prefects are available at the office with Bobbie for those students interested in being a Student Prefect, including Head Boy and Head Girl and their deputies, and also House Captains. This is open to students who are in Year 11 or 12 this year.
The application is due at the school office by 3.30 pm on 28 October.
This will be then followed by our selection process and eventual announcements at the junior Prizegivings in December.
See Mrs Takimoana for further information.
Welcome back Mr Tan in Term 4!
Mr Mark Tan, our school’s Principal, will be returning back to school in Term 4 after 3 terms on sabbatical leave. I will move from my Acting Principal position into a supporting role for Mr Tan, while we transition into Term 4 and also prepare for 2023.
‘Study Stay’ not leave - Year 11-13 in Term 4
In the past, our Year 11-13 students have typically gone onto ‘Study Leave’ once it is time to sit external examinations for NCEA. However, since this year has had its fair share of disruptions, we are going to have to change our approach slight. At present, I am working on a plan and a separate newsletter will be sent to parents and whānau next week about the details of what this ‘Study Stay’ will look like for our Year 11-13 students.

Meet the Team - Elaine du Preez - Secondary Science Teacher Y7 - Y10
I am Elaine du Preez and I come from South Africa. I spent many years there teaching and living in an area called the Central Drakensberg. It is a beautiful part of the country.
I am married to a wonderful man (Peter) and we have been blessed with two remarkable children. Our daughter (Christy) is studying music in Sweden and our son (Josh) will commence his Year 13 at Bundies next year.
I am so excited to be teaching Science at Abundant Life School to the amazing young people in Year 7 - 10. I look forward to exploring God’s wonderful creation with them all through experiments and investigations into the world around us.
