Snohomish School District Welcome Week September 9-11

The first three days of school are designed to get the technology out to families and give time to get ready for Remote Learning. The following Welcome Activities are intended to give families of idea of what to expect the first days of school. We will not jump in and try to do a full school day. Even when we are physically in school, we take our time and teach routines, get to know our students and set the stage for learning for the year. With Remote Learning, we need to take our time and give everyone time to get set up and ready for Remote Learning. PLEASE BE PATIENT AS WE WORK THROUGH ALL THE START OF YEAR CHALLENGES THAT ARE BOUND TO HAPPEN. :)

Family Drive Through Pick Up Laptop, Textbooks, Workbooks September 9th

Grade Level Pick Up Schedule

9:00 - 10:00 am 5th and 6th grades and 4/5/6 Highly Capable

10:30 - 11:30 am 3rd and 4th grades

1:00 - 2:00 pm 1st and 2nd grades

2:00 - 3:00 pm Kindergarten

On Wednesday September 9th, we will have families drive to school to pick up up a bag full of a laptop (if you choose), textbooks, workbooks and any other learning supplies that your child’s teacher puts in the bag. We ask that everyone wears a mask, stay in their vehicle and we will all practice social distancing. We will also smile with our eyes and send a big welcome to our students and parents!

Every student in Snohomish School District has the option of getting a laptop computer to use at home during Remote Learning. You will drive into the bus zone in front of the school and will be welcomed by Educational Assistants. They will scan and check out a laptop to you. You will sign an agreement.

After getting your computer, you will pull up to your child's teacher. She will put a brown bag full of textbooks, workbooks and learning materials for your child to use at home for Remote Learning.

Teachers Call Families To Chat and Get To Know You September 9-10

Cathcart teachers will be calling families to chat and get to know you the first few days of school. We will also ask some common questions to learn a little more about the health of the community and what it is like in your home and how that will affect Remote Learning. We know that Remote Learning may be very challenging for some families and we want to try to better understand how we can adjust our teaching and our programs to best support our community.

First Days of Zoom Online Learning September 10-11

We know that families are going to need to set up their computer workstations and make sure that there is internet access. Teachers need to send out information to families and there is going to be some problem solving and adjusting to make this all work. Our goal is to have families join their classroom teacher for some welcoming activities by Friday September 11th. I know that Cathcart teachers are looking forward with anticipation to meeting our students and figuring out how to make this the best possible year for Cathcart students. We are all in this together.

Cathcart New Family Welcome Zoom Meeting

September 2 at 6:00 pm

In a normal year, I love, love, love welcoming all the new Cathcart families by taking you on a tour of the school and sharing how the school day goes from bus drop off, to recess, to lunches to assemblies to Art Smart and so much more. We take the bus and play on the playground and eat ice cream together. The is the best part of Cathcart.

This year, we don’t get to do any of those things but I am going to offer a New Family Welcome Zoom Meeting. I look forward to welcoming you to Cathcart and will give you an idea of what to expect with Remote Learning the first months of school. I will also share our tentative plans for returning to school when it is safe and share that I am looking forward to that day with great anticipation.

Our students will all have their core instruction in the morning. K-2 students will be their teacher from 8:30-10:30 am. 3rd-6th grade students will be their teachers from 8:30-11:30am.

Then our teachers who support students who need extra help will work with small groups of students after morning core instruction is finished. Brenda Olivares, our new ELL teacher and Natalie Shapiro will have small groups of ELL students. We expect that these classes will start on September 21st.

New Cathcart Teachers and Staff

Brittany Magiba is our new nurse. She is a trained pediatric nurse full of high energy and she loves kids. She has always wanted to be a school nurse and is looking forward to joining the Cathcart community.

Brenda Olivares is our new ELL teacher. She will be working with Natalie to Shapiro to provide support for our 50 English Language Learners this year. Brenda recently graduated from the University of Washington. She speaks Spanish which will be a wonderful bonus for our ELL families.

Jessica Afalla is our new 2nd grade teacher. She is taking over for Carol Stonich who retired. Jessica taught primary grades at Dutch Hill Elementary the last few years.
