'It is the ability to choose which makes us human." - Madeline L'Engle (American Author);Habit 1: Be Proactive
Habit 1: Become a Transition Person
*When we are effective, we can become a Transition Person. We can replace unhealthy, harmful, abusive, or ineffective patterns of behavior from our past with proactive, helpful, effective behaviors.
Common Practice: Pass negative patterns along
Think About...
- Who has been a Transition Person for you personally? What influence did this Transition Person have on your life?
- How have the negative behaviors of others affected you? How might you be passing them along?
- Choose to rewrite your script.
- Forgive those who passed on negative behaviors to you; don't hold grudges.
- Identify a situation where you could be a Transition Person.
- Use the 4 Unique Human Gifts to create your true self.
From the 7 Habits Book
"A tendency that's run through your family [or work group or organization] can stop with you. You're a Transition Person - a link between the past and the future. And your own change can affect many, many lives downstream."
Attendance Reminder:
The next incentive will be you have to spell BOTH words Perfect Attendance (so there will be no celebration once PERFECT is spelled!]
When a class spells “PERFECT ATTENDANCE” - They will receive a VIP Lunch recognition. A few tables will be dedicated to that class with decorations and music or shout out specifically to them. (subject to change based on classroom/grade level/teacher needs/dynamics- see Alternatives to choose from if needed)
When a class spells ‘PERFECT ATTENDANCE’ the second time [both words this time around] - they will receive a 15 minute Princi-PAL Recognition the class will earn a trophy, be awarded with certificates w/ social media recognition and play kickball, or chosen recess game with principals. (subject to change based on classroom/grade level/teacher needs/dynamics- see Alternatives to choose from if needed)

DESE Memo Update
Attached is the latest memo from DESE regarding the Spring 2018 MAP Assessment Timing estimates.
Why is this important?
To understand the design and timing aspects for each test---this will also help design the local assessment calendars for building testing of each MAP area
Note that the Writing Activity is now back in 4th grade ELA
All math areas have a performance event
The science test this year is a field test
The link at the bottom of the memo takes you to the assessment blueprints informing us of the state assessment emphasis based on the curriculum standards/domains
The link at the bottom of the memo to the Item Specifications helps with understanding the depth of the assessment items and making connections back to our local curriculum documents and classroom practices (instruction and local assessment alignment)
Intermediate vertical teams will be meeting December 4 and 5th to review IBD reports and plan accordingly. The new Missouri Learning Standards will need to be matched to our current assessments.
