JW Killam Principal's Corner
Ms. Leveque's Weekly Newsletter
From the Desk of Ms. Leveque
At this time of thanks and appreciation, I am reminded of an article from Responsive Classroom, an educators resources on social-emotional development, that recognizes that teachers specialize in everything! The article from September 20, 2017 states this about teachers, "you’re a master of flexibility, an expert gear-switcher, and you know and teach every student at your school." This couldn't be more true for our Killam staff. Each and every day, they work to form strong relationships, make personal connections, wear the hat of knowledge-expert and knowledge-finder, promote exploration of creativity and ideas, take on the role of nurse, Mom, Dad, family support, and psychologist, and most importantly, supporter of childhood. We are fortunate to have this community of teachers educating our students. Please join me in thanking them for their incredible dedication, commitment, and attention to the Killam students!
We would also like to thank all the parents who were able to support our Hour of Code week at Killam. Mrs. Adamo did an outstanding job making it a success and we couldn't have been so productive without our parents. This was our fifth year running and it gets better and better each year. If your child is interested in coding more from home, please visit https://code.org/learn. This link is also on the bottom of the school website under the "student" tab.
And finally, as it is a time for giving and sending joy to our community, the Killam students created cards for 6-year old Carlos Rolon who is awaiting a heart transplant at Children's Hospital. His wish has been to receive holiday cards for his hospital room. His story is a powerful one for elementary students and we were more than happy to support him as a child-to-child connection and through our core value focus. If you have not heard Carlos' story, hear about it here.
On a personal note, I wish each of you a wonderful holiday season and December break.
Best,
Ms. Leveque
