Capital City
The capital city of Morocco is Rabat. Rabat is situated West of the center of the country. It became the capital in 1912 and is the second most populated city in Morocco with approximately 1 million people. It’s official name is “City of Flowers”. It is called that because of its beautiful flowers. Its government is in the capital just like Australia.
Highest Mountain
Flag
The flag of Morocco is a green five pointed star with a cherry red background. The green star is known as Sulayman's Seal. Apparently red and green are traditional colours on Arab flags. It was designed in 1912. The star represents the connection between God and Morocco.
Tourism
Tourism is very popular in Morocco because of its beautiful valleys of roses. In Morocco there is a particular place called the 'Valley of the Roses'. It has stunning scenery of roses. You can also visit the distillation center where you can purchase rose water, rose oil and fluoroscent soaps. You can also hand pick roses and enjoy the beautiful scent.
Food and Drink
Moroccan food is quite different from Australia's food. A lot of their diet consists of beans, stews, corn, rice, diary products and wheat products. Morocco also has delicasies such as snails and kebabs. They also have a variety of grilled meats like meatballs and lamb. Most of Morocco's food contains almond or peanuts so it is not ideal for peole with nut allergies.
Religon
Most of the population of Morocco is Muslim which is 98.7%, 1.1% is Christian and 0.2% is Jewish. The Muslamic faith dosen't believe in drinking alcohol which means that only 1.3% of the Moroccan population can drink alcoholic beverages.
Language
The main language in Morocco is Arabic. The Arabic language reads from right to left so they start at the opposite side we do, so you probably won't be able to read anything if you go there. Other languages that are spoken in Morocco are French and different scripts of Berber.
Education
Moroccan primary schooling is free and mandatory, with 90% of children enrolled. Once they finish primary school dropout levels are high, especially for girls. Only around 50% of girls that attended primary go to high school, which means that the other half drop out. In 2008 the National Literacy Rates show that 15-24 year old women who can read and write are only 68% and for men it is 85%.
Population
The population of Morocco is 32. million according to the United Nations in 2010. The population of under 18 years is 11 million. The percentage of people living in the city is 56%, that is over half.
