Third Years
Hello 3rd Year parents,
The learners had their Marketing Meetings this week in which they got their first opportunity for professional feedback on the direction of their companies and how they are marketing their products. Great feedback was given and the learners have one week to implement it. The next big due date is Oct 25th, the day the final Business Plan is due. Learners will use their Business Plan for their Loan Officer Meetings on Oct 28th & Oct 29th where their final pitches will be made for funding in K'Ching. Good Luck learners, next week will be a busy busy week!
Thank you,
Your 3rd Year Facilitators.
Second Years
This past Friday marked the midway point of Beneath the Surface, as learners participated in the First General Assembly of the 3rd Academy Model United Nations. The General Assembly marks the end of the first session, as delegates debate the resolutions which have passed their respective committees. We spoke with one of our Second Year Learners, Savannah Pyle, about her thoughts on the Model UN aspect of Beneath the Surface.
Mr. Stamets: Can you explain to our readers in your own words, What is Model United Nations?
Savannah Pyle: Teams of 5 that represent different nations from the United Nations. Each committee dealt with many different issues. The Special Committee is focusing on the issue of the crashed satellite in the South Atlantic Ocean.
Mr. Stamets: What sort of knowledge was needed to participate in this model?
Savannah Pyle: There were lots of things. How to appropriately research, where to research, how to take a stance you would not normally support. We needed to learn how to work as a team, even though there were conflicting ideas present.
Mr. Stamets: Has anything been difficult about Model UN, and if so what?
Savannah Pyle: It can be difficult to take the stance of the country which you represent, and what position they hold on these issues.
Mr. Stamets: Has it been difficult to represent Indonesia?
Savannah Pyle: No, they have a lot of laws in place that is pretty similar to the US. They have very straightforward laws which are easy to interpret and represent.
Mr. Stamets: What has been your favorite part of this session?
Savannah Pyle:I like gaining knowledge about different countries perspectives and keeping up to date with what is happening in the world.
Mr. Stamets: This General Assembly marks the end of the first session, what do you hope to see different in the next session?
Savannah Pyle: Hopefully delegates do a better job of representing their countries, expanding knowledge further about different issues in the world today.
