We have an AMAZING field trip opportunity for our 7th grade students in the spring!! Students have the opportunity to spend the day in Atlanta on May 8, 2019 going to the Georgia Capitol, Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca-Cola.
Students will leave BCMS at 6 am that Wednesday and head to Atlanta on a Kelly Tours charter bus. Once students arrive in Atlanta, they will start their day with a tour of the Georgia Capitol and a boxed lunch before making their way to the Georgia Aquarium. The Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the world and this opportunity will allow students to view the marine life from local waters of Georgia and around the world. After the aquarium, they will travel over to the the World of Coca-Cola which shows the complete story of the world's best-known brand. ELA:
This week we will dive into argument writing for one last amazing writing unit before GMAS. We will start the week off learning about the differences between plagiarism and paraphrasing, research skills, and credible sources. Student who need extra practice before GMAS will start using Lumos Learning to help tackle those difficult standards.
Read 180:
Students in Read 180 are working in Workshop 5. This Workshop opens with background about an outbreak of SARS that previews the work of medical experts in later texts. The first text introduces the flu pandemic of 1918β1919. An article explores what causes illness and profiles major historical outbreaks. Then, a suspenseful narrative recounts a modern-day outbreak scare. Students then travel back in time with a historical fiction account of an outbreak of plague during the Middle Ages. An informational text gives tips for staying healthy, from high-tech gear to everyday practices. Finally, a persuasive poster shows how images communicate powerful messages about health. Students will continue to work in the Read 180 app at their own pace.
System 44:
Students in System 44 are working in Module 6. This module is titled Guilty Until Proven Innocent. We will be looking at how the U.S. justice system affects suspects and communities. Students will be working on comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills continuously throughout this module. Students will continue to work at their own pace in the System 44 app.

Social Studies:
Students will begin writing a DBQ (Document Based Question) essay on the use of child labor to harvest chocolate in Africa. They will use multiple documents to gather evidence and construct body paragraphs. These documents will be a mixture of charts, graphs, primary sources, and secondary sources. On Friday, students will analyze their MAP scores and determine what areas they need to focus on for upcoming GMAS testing. We will review growth over the course of the year.
