Me, the Brain
By: Erica Nah :)
Introduction
I have four main parts, and those four main parts are called the cerebrum, cerebellum, the limbic system, and the brain stem. These parts are a team, and if one of these parts are gone, some of your body systems/parts won't function properly, or you would even die!
The Limbic System
The limbic system contains the thalamus, hypothalamus, amygdala, and hippocampus. It's nickname is called, "the emotional brain" because this part of my body is in charge of emotions, memory, movement, motor function, sense of smell, and much more. The limbic system is located on top of the brain stem, and buried under the cerebrum.
Cerebrum
The cerebrum is the biggest part of me, and it is separated into four sections. The frontal lobe, perietal lobe, temporal lobe, and the occipital lobe. Each lobe have different functions, but with them combined, the cerebrum controls the vision, hearing, taste, smell, creative thought, personality, language, stores information, memory, decision making, and judgement. Basically, the main function of the cerebrum is thinking.
The Brain Stem
The brain stem is located between the spine and me The brain stem's job is very important, it's job has to do with blood pressure, breathing, help your vital organs move (Heart, lungs, stomach, etc.) digest food, sort through millions of messages your body sends to your brain, and anything else that have to do with the circulatory system, digestive system, and the respiratory system.
Cerebellum
The cerebellum is located right below the cerebrum, and it's at the back of me. The cerebellum's job is to keep you balanced, move around, and coordinate. So without the cerebellum, you wouldn't be moving around, and balanced!
