The Future of Police

A Step in the Right Direction
Body worn cameras have been at the top of the list when it comes to products that could help the situation at hand. Although they are not mandated in every state yet and can in some circumstances have poor film quality. I believe these gadgets offer the best chance to keep a level playing field and are the future of police and civilian protection. There is no way to see or feel exactly what a police officer experiences daily, but body worn cameras give third parties great insight for what’s going on while he or she is on duty. This footage could be used to settle court cases and in return could cut down on law suits involving the police. “Obama is currently proposing a three-year, $263 million spending package to increase use of body-worn cameras, expand training for law enforcement and add more resources for police department reform. The package includes $75 million for to help pay for 50,000 of the small, lapel-mounted cameras to record police on the job” (Nedra Pickler Associated Press). This type of government funding is what the police and humans need, to stay accountable and liable for their actions.
