Notre Dame Catholic Primary School
Foundations for Life Long Learning October 17
I trust that all families and staff had an enjoyable break from the regular school routine over the past couple of weeks and have returned to school ready for the busyness of our final Term for the year. Even though we try to keep fourth Term relatively “event-free”, as we were finalising the Term calendar recently, it became evident that this would, again, not be the case. There is barely a day throughout the Term when we don't have something on. Fortunately,
many of these events are specific to particular classes and don’t involve all of the children however, they certainly keep us on our toes. I’m particularly looking forward to the Senior and Interschool Athletics Carnivals, our school photos, the Official Opening of our renovated staffroom and support rooms, Open Night and the Book Fair, the Class and Merit assemblies and even the Colour Fun Run on 29 November. Of course, we all look forward to our Carols and Awards evening, meeting with our 2020 class teachers on transition day and our end of year excursions. One thing that I don’t particularly look forward to is farewelling the Year Six students which is both a happy and sad time. Happy because they will certainly be ready to move onto high school and be great ambassadors for our school but sad because they won’t be with us as our new school year commences in 2020. All in all, it’s going to be another very interesting last few weeks before we break for the Christmas holidays. I look forward to sharing the journey with you all.
CYCLIC REVIEW
Next Wednesday and Thursday we will have a Panel of Principals and Catholic Education Office staff visiting our school to conduct a Cyclic Review of our culture and practices. This occurs in all Catholic schools every five years and involves input from students, staff and parents, through the School Board and P&F.
OPENING
The renovations to the Library and the Staffroom have been completed and we are very happy with the wonderful facilities that have been created. We will celebrate these great additions to our school at an Official Opening on Friday 1 November at 2.00pm and I invite parents to join us for the opening ceremony which will be held in the Mother Mary Piazza and a tour of the new facilities.
DANCE PERFORMANCES
Our two very successful Dance groups that represented our school at the recent Festival of Performing Arts for Catholic Schools will perform for us next Friday afternoon, 25 October, at 2.30pm on the school oval. I invite all parents to arrive early to collect their children to see the wonderful efforts of the children and Mrs Donovan Flintoff and Miss Rognetta.
CONGRATULATIONS!
One of our students who starred in our school’s back to back Champion School result at the Interschool Swimming Carnival earlier this year, Charles Dave Empleo, competed in the 2019 Swimming WA Junior Short Course Championships during the school holidays achieving the following fantastic results in the 11 year old boys division.
Congratulations Charles on your great achievement, you are a wonderful example of dedication and effort to all of us.
AFTER-SCHOOL HOUR THE MOST DANGEROUS TIME FOR CHILD PEDESTRIANS ON WA ROADS
This headline, which was in The West Australian newspaper last Monday, is a very pertinent reminder for us all to be vigilant around our school at the end of each day. Primary school aged children are generally not well equipped to be fully aware of the dangers associated with traffic around the school so we, parents and staff, must take particular care to ensure their safety by being patient and observing the road and parking regulations.
P&F COCKTAIL PARTY
Unfortunately, this event, due to be held this coming Saturday evening, has had to be cancelled due to insufficient numbers. Refunds have or will be made to those who had purchased tickets through the TryBooking website. Thank you to the P&F for their continued efforts in offering a range of events to our community and to all who had committed to attending this event.
SCHOOL GARDENING
Woolworths have announced a new campaign called “Discovery Garden” where they have launched their collectable seedling kits. For every $30 you spend at Woolworths, customers can collect a seedling kit. Also, if you spend $15 on fresh fruit or vegetables within the $30 you’ll also receive a bonus seedling kit. They have a collection of 24 different varieties of vegetables, flowers and herbs to collect. The campaign started on 11 September and will finish on 22 October.
So, when you do your shopping and you are offered a seedling kit, if you don’t want it, please still accept it and consider donating it to Notre Dame School because we would be delighted to receive it from you. We will use seedlings in our school vegetable garden and other gardens around the school. Just drop them into the office and we will take care of them.
Many thanks
Bro Stephen Barker OSM
