November 2023
Principal's Monthly Message
Hello Eagle Families,
As we enter November and I reflect upon the last 3 months, I am incredibly grateful to be part of the Mountain View community. There is so much good here and much to be celebrated!
- I am grateful for each of our Eagles and our Eagle families. Without you, MVS would not be what it is...a warm, friendly, welcoming place for students to learn.
- I am grateful for the kindness and compassion that exist in each of you. It is on full display on a daily basis.
- I am grateful for everyone who works at Mountain View. They work tirelessly to guide, teach, and develop our students into amazing citizens.
What are you grateful for? This is an excellent topic for regular conversation with your child(ren) to develop a sense of appreciation and gratitude for the beauty around us and the life we live.
November also brings the end of the first Trimester. We will be celebrating the accomplishments of our Eagles at an awards assembly. More information will be provided by your student(s)' teacher.
Finally, we will have the week of November 20-24, 2023 away from school to spend with family and friends, to rejuvenate and recharge, and prepare to close out another year. I look forward to seeing everyone when we return to school on Monday, November 27, 2023.
SOARing with Eagle Pride,
~Mrs. Marich
Words Matter
We need your help in continuing the conversation at home regarding appropriate words for students to use at school. Specifically, we need students to understand that words of HARM or VIOLENCE cannot be used at school, even in a joking manner. Often, these harmful words scare other students who hear them being said, even among friends. Obviously, some words and phrases are more serious than others, however, safety is paramount at school! Every student deserves to feel safe at school; this incudes not only safe, physical actions but also safe, nonviolent words. Below is a small sampling of some examples of phrases/words not to be used at school in any context:
- I'm going to punch/hit/hurt/smack/fight you.
- I wish you were dead (or would die).
- I hope your house burns down/catches fires/blows up/explodes.
- I want someone to hurt/shoot/kill you.
- My (relative) is going to run you over with their truck.
- KYS/KMS (in written/text form) = Kill Yourself/Kill Myself
Finally, weapons of any kind are not allowed on campus (including toys, imitation, fake, etc.). This extends to not talking about weapons on campus.
Your partnership in having regular conversations with. your students about this topic is greatly appreciated.
See/Hear Something, Say Something!
To SOAR, Be Here More!
Attendance Campaign
We appreciate your partnership in having your student(s) at school, on time, each and every day! A couple of reminders to help in this mission:
- Breakfast in the MPR is offered daily beginning at 7:30
- Students need to be on-campus and through the gate by the warning bell at 7:58 in order to be with their class, entering the classroom when school starts at 8:00 am.
Students are being recognized for their attendance and encouraged to Be Here, each and every day! Some recognition includes:
- Weekly recognition to the classes with the highest attendance rate
- Weekly drawings for students who had perfect attendance during the prior week
- Attendance Surprise Days - students present on these unannounced days get to participate in fun activities
We MISS YOU when you are not here and you MISS OUT when you are absent!
National Native American Heritage Month
November is Native American Heritage Month. Every year at this time, we recognize and celebrate the many contributions, rich culture, and extensive histories of the Native American community. We are looking forward to learning and celebrating together about the Indigenous Peoples way of life, traditions, dance, music, crafts, and more.
Reading at Home
Footsteps 2 Brilliance (preschool-3rd grade)
