What's the Franklin Flier?

The Franklin Flier is an electronic communication with important information about school sent to families every two weeks. The Franklin Flier includes general details about Franklin, time sensitive information about events, and grade level specific newsletters.

Will you be at the Franklin Picnic on October 10?

The Franklin staff will be hosting a Family Picnic on Thursday, October 10 from 5:30-7:00 on the Franklin Playground.

It will be an opportunity for our Franklin community to get together to celebrate the start of the new school year.

The PTO has generously provided all beef hot dogs, buns, plates, napkins, forks, and condiments. We ask that all families who attend bring a side dish (last names beginning with A-R) or dessert (last names beginning with S-Z) to share with others. Please bring these when you come, DO NOT send them to school before the event.

Ideas for side dishes- Veggies & dip, cheese sticks, bag of chips, salad, fruit

Families will also need to bring their own beverages.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday, October 10 at 5:30.

In the event of inclement weather, we will cancel the picnic.

Do you need Franklin clothing?

Franklin clothing will be available for sale at Family Picnic Night on October 10. Franklin Fans will also be able to order Franklin clothing online October 10 - November 1. Stay tuned for more information, including a link to the online store!

Why no bananas on Wednesdays?

We are asking that students & staff do not bring bananas, or other items with bananas in them, to school on Wednesdays. We have a staff member who works here on Wednesdays and is severely allergic to bananas.

Thank you for your help in this matter.

Why the change to the breakfast procedure?

We will be trying out a change to the students' breakfast routine so that we can:

  1. Feed kids
  2. Get them to class as soon as possible
  3. Reduce the mess made by food in hallways and classrooms

Beginning Monday, we are going to try the following plan for the next 3-4 weeks and then evaluate it.

  • 7:40- 8:00 bell Breakfast menu items eaten in the cafeteria
  • 8:00 bell - 8:10 bell Bag breakfast from the cafeteria brought to class
  • After 8:10 bell Tardy pass and a breakfast from the office brought to class

Please contact Mr. Olson if you have questions about the plan.

What's new on Peachjar?

Check out all the flyers on the Peachjar site by clicking the link at the top of the page. Make it a regular habit to check out the latest offerings from around our community. It's a great way to find programs for kids that keep them active and connected to other kids their age.
  • Building readers
  • Thanksgiving baskets
  • Job's Jr. Dance
  • Free dental service
  • and more....

Welcome to 2019-20 school year from Franklin Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). As a parent, legal guardian,or staff of students enrolled at Franklin Elementary School, you are a member!

How can I volunteer to help at Franklin?

We need more parent volunteers!! Please complete the PTO volunteer form (linked here). You'll be contacted about ways to help throughout the year.

When are retakes and which photo of my child will be in the yearbook?

Retakes are Thursday, October 10. Any students and staff who were not photographed in September will have their pictures taken. If you weren’t pleased with the September photos, your child can have his/her photo taken again.

When the parents go online to view their kids photos they can do the following:

  • Select a photo
  • Select Personalize photo
  • On this next screen above the photo is a checkbox for the parent to check for retakes
  • Parents can check that box then just close out

If a parent doesn’t do this but tells the child to go to retakes they can still come down and we will photograph them.

If you’re wondering which photo of your child will appear in the yearbook, here’s the answer from a Jostens representative, “The yearbook photo is selected by the photographer based off of specific guidelines we have for what constitutes for a yearbook photo. This helps ensure continuity with the pictures.”

Wait, is the Oct. 8 PTO meeting at the WOW!Zone?

Our next PTO meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the WOW!Zone Family Entertainment Center. First grade teachers will be our presenting teachers and we will be discussing recent and upcoming PTO events. PTO decided last year that we'd hold our October meeting off-site to celebrate our Walk-A-Thon success. The WOW!Zone will have dinner and drink specials and will extend their $10 game card special (unlimited games/no tickets) for our entire meeting. Staff, parents and students are welcome to attend (even if kids end up playing in the arcade).

Was Walk-A-Thon successful?

Not only was Walk-A-Thon incredibly fun and engaging for our whole community, our students exceeded the $11,000 goal by raising over $12,000. Since we met our fundraising goal, PTO will cover the $3,100 in rental costs for the roller skating curriculum later this fall. All PS-5 students will get to pick a free book from the Book Bazaar in late October/early November. This is a special during-school event and is not the Scholastic Book Fair that runs during conferences. PTO will be able to fund the field trips and academic enrichment experiences in the budget. For more details on how the funds will be used or other prizes that were won, join us at next week’s PTO meeting or check out our Franklin PTO Facebook group (insert link, please).

When can I purchase Franklin clothing for my family?

Franklin apparel will be for sale at the Family Picnic on Oct. 10 from 5:30-7 p.m. All stock on hand will be 50% off. If you or your child need a size that PTO doesn’t have in stock, you will be able to order it from B Stark at the normal price starting Oct. 10. Our annual clothing order will be in October this year rather than February, as we are limited in youth sizes and want our students to have the chance to wear Franklin wear as soon as possible. PTO’s goal this year is to sell our remaining youth and adult stock this year and we will never carry stock in future years. Beginning next year, Franklin apparel will only be able to be ordered.

What are PTO’s Trash into Cash Programs?

The bulk of PTO’s funding comes from the Walk-A-Thon, but we also have two “trash into cash” programs: Box Tops for Education and Hy-Vee receipts. We do not want you to change what you buy or where you shop, but if you do shop at our Mankato Hy-Vee stores or buy items with Box Tops, please save and submit them.

Please submit Hy-Vee receipts dated Sept. 1, 2019-June 1, 2020 to Franklin. Receipts must be from the two Mankato stores. Receipts can go to classroom teachers or better yet in the collection bin across from the office in the first grade hallway. Franklin receives $1 for every $150 spent and typically earns over $600 through this trash into cash program.

The Box Tops for Education program donates $.10 to Franklin for each submitted Box Top. Please clip and submit any physical Box Tops you have later this month for our fall classroom competition. Box Tops for Education has gone digital and you can now earn points by scanning your receipts in the Box Tops app within 14 days of purchase. More details about Box Tops will go home next week either in backpacks or as a PeachJar announcement.
