Read –a-thon
McBride readers have read 161,864 minutes for our Read-a-thon. In doing so they raised $2455 for the McBride Library. That means a lot of kids have earned prizes and our library will be getting more books for readers. To select your prize from the prize store, sign in right away to your account and choose your item(s). Congratulations Readers! Thank you families and friends for your contributions to McBride!
Book Fair
The McBride Book Fair was a wonderful success. With the proceeds from the book fair we are able to do a fantastic program called Great Gifts. Being able to purchase a book from the book fair is a very special gift. The McBride Great Gift program will be providing each student, at McBride, with a $2 gift certificate to be used at the May book fair. Thank you for supporting our McBride readers with your book fair purchases.
Read Across America
You're never too old, too wacky, too wild,
To pick up a book and read with a child.
You're never too busy, too cool, or too hot,
To pick up a book and share what you've got.
We had a wide variety of volunteer readers who came to McBride for Read Across America Day. Governor Barbara Roberts visited 4th and 5th grade. Fire fighters, active and retired service members, police officers, and EMTs read in K-3rd. The students enjoyed asking questions and learning about the careers of people who work throughout Oregon to serve and protect of community. Thank you volunteers!

P.E. News
February was heart awareness month. In PE we have been learning how to jump, jump on & jump off, and jump rope. Jumping rope is an excellent way to exercise your heart.
I have teamed up with The American Heart Association to raise money for their charity, Jump for Heart.

The kick off assembly was March 5th to introduce how our students can help by raising money for the American Heart Association.
Students will fund raise until March 23rd. This is the last day before Spring Break.
Let’s start Jumping!

Art Literacy has been an extra special opportunity for our McBride Mustangs to learn about artists as well as learn and practice their techniques. It is a fun way to volunteer for a class. Here is a link to the sign-up:

TOGETHER - Mustang Award
Our Mustang theme this year is "Together". Let's continue the recognition and thank yous. Each week we've enjoyed sharing the recipients for the TOGETHER award. Recipients receive this award because of the spirit of togetherness they've demonstrated to help McBride continue to be strong. You may nominate staff from McBride, staff from St. Helens School District, parents from McBride, community members from McBride/St. Helens - anyone that demonstrates working 'together' to help McBride continue to be the incredible school and community that it is. You may pick up a "Together" nomination form in the office or email Mrs. Tyler (lisat@sthelens.k12.or.us).
This week's award recipients......
Chelsie Orr and Ted Hirning - Chelsie, our head secretary and Ted Hirning, one of our sixth grade teachers, have stepped up this week and worked at supporting "All Things McBride" while Mrs. Tyler was gone to a Principal's conference in Eugene. Thank you for stepping up and keeping up with all the details.
Tish Hora - Tish Hora is our school nurse and she continues to plan and coordinate our wellness activities, most recently a paint night for staff. Thank you, Tish, for caring about our staff and providing opportunities for us to take care of ourselves.
