Meadow Park News
March 22nd, 2019
Principal's Corner
Hello Meadow Park Families,
This is the time of year that, while simultaneously working to wind down the year in a positive way with kids, we begin thinking about next year. To that end, our superintendent has prepared a budget message to share with our community. We have linked to the message below and I would encourage you to watch it.
When we arrive back from break, we will be close to quarter grades being sent out (April 5th) and shortly on the heels of that we will begin our state testing in ELA and Math (April 15th). Please make sure your student is here every day during the month of April! It's going to be a busy and important month at The Park.
Have an excellent week of break!
Jared Freeman
Principal

TIMSS International Research Study
Attention 8th Grade Families!
A random group of students have been selected by TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) to participate in an international research study on April 2nd here at Meadow Park during the school day. If your child has Mr. Fewx during period 4 or Mr. Packan during period 5, please check their backpack for a letter regarding the study. Please visit the link to view a brochure provided by TIMSS.

Choice Reading over Spring Break!
Choice reading is a school-wide expectation in all Beaverton middle schools throughout the district. Every child at Meadow Park should be deeply engaged in a book, of their choice, on a regular basis. Students are given some time every day in Humanities to read their choice reading book. They are setting goals, tracking how many books they have read, and reflecting on their thinking as they engage in a book that is of interest to them. The expectation is that they are reading for 20-30 minutes at home each night in an effort to support the goal of creating a reading life outside of school. Is your child doing this? If not, sit down with your son or daughter to ask them how you can support him or her in making sure this happens on a nightly basis. Thank you so much for supporting us - a strong home/school connection is critical in preparing your child for high school and then...college!
Practice Math over Spring Break!
Thank you, parents, for partnering with us!
In addition to reading, we are encouraging all students to engage in math learning, outside of school. This could include math homework assigned by teacher, reviewing math notes by highlighting and reworking problems, practicing explanations, real math opportunities at home and/or working inside Dreambox.
Dreambox is an adaptive math program that adjusts in real-time adapting hints, level of difficulty, pace, and sequence. It is recommended that students complete 5-10 lessons per week outside of their classroom lessons. It is highly engaging while expanding student thinking through math practice in a fun yet applicable way. The individualized approach aids in helping students fill in gaps as well as advance their skills.
We are very excited to have a math program that support students' math learning inside and outside of school!
Dream box is available on the Student Bookmark page on the Beaverton School District Website. If you need support in helping your child access the site, please contact your child's math teacher.
Volunteers Needed in our Meadow Park ART Classes
Parents! Join us in our ART Class!
Art students are creating large animal masks this month. Thank you so much for considering to generously donate your time. You are invited to our first meeting on Tuesday, April 2nd at 4:00pm at Meadow Park Middle School C-9. We will be discussing our goals, creating a materials list, and starting the first steps to building the frames for our large scale puppets. The meeting/workshop will last for about an hour or slightly longer.
Agenda for Tuesday, April 2nd at 4:00pm:
1. Discuss the best ways to build the puppets.
2. Create a supply list.
3. Begin to assemble puppets
4. Discuss future meeting times.
If you cannot make it on Tuesday and wish to help, please email me with times that work best for you and your family. I would be more than happy to have parent volunteers assembling puppets during the school day. It would be a fun experience for the students to see the puppets come to life before their eyes. Please send me an email at Lelainya_guzman@beaverton.k12.or.us if you think you might be able to help.
This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to support the arts at Meadow Park Middle School. We can't wait to see the Meadow Park Marching Band as they march with our large scale animal masks in the St. John's Parade on May 11th.
