Bauer Bits

From the Principal's Desk
You may know that our semester at Bauer ended on January 15th. As we prepare to send home report cards and other feedback, we'd also like to offer you the opportunity to share your feedback with us. As in other industries, gathering feedback is important for us as educators because we want to make sure that our relationships with you and your child/children are successful. It is both intuitive and documented that successful home-school relationships lead to better learning outcomes.
HERE is a survey for you to offer feedback as we reflect and prepare for a successful second semester. We've landed on eleven questions which focus on your broader overall satisfaction with Bauer. We ask that you only complete one survey unless you see the need to share additional information that is not the same for one of your other children. While the feeling across the building is that things are going well, we want to confirm that and welcome your constructive feedback as we partner for success.
Thank you!

PreK/Kindergarten Registration & Informational Meeting
Step 1: Enroll Online - Online registration for PreK and Kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year will open the week of January 23.
To be eligible, children must be five years of age on or before September 1, 2023. A PreK/Kindergarten waiver form may also be submitted for children who turn five between September 2 - December 1, 2023. These waiver forms will be made available during the registration process.
If possible, please complete the online enrollment prior to the PreK/Kindergarten Showcase hosted by each of our elementary school principals on January 31, 2023 at 6:30 p.m.
Step 2 - Attend the PreK/Kindergarten Showcase on January 31, 2023 at your child's home school building from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
The event will be hosted by each building principal and will offer important information regarding preparation for PreK/Kindergarten. Some topics included are; the differences between our PreK and Kindergarten programs, registration details, what to expect regarding our lunch program and transportation details.
Step 3 - PreK/Kindergarten Screening Process - Upon completion of your online registration and participation in the PreK/Kindergarten Showcase event, you will receive communication from your building principal in early March.
Your building principal will provide details regarding the screening process for your child. Every student will participate in a one-on-one screening with current HPS PreK/Kindergarten teachers. The screening process helps us get to know your child as we partner with you to ensure the best learning environments for each of our learners.
- The screening process MUST be completed prior to your child being placed in a PreK or Kindergarten HPS classroom for the 2023-2024 school year.
- If your child currently attends our PreK program, you need not attend the screening. Your child’s screening will be completed by their current teacher during their regular school day.
Step 4 - Notification of Placement - PreK or Kindergarten
Parents will be notified of the placement decision by May 31, 2023. Information about a late summer orientation for students and parents will be included in the notification letter.

Reminder - Winter Gear
Just a reminder now that the seasons have changed and we are experiencing colder temperatures it is important that our students are prepared for the weather and ready to go outside. We keep an eye on the weather throughout the day and get the students out for recess as much as possible. Please send them with LABELED boots, coats, hats, gloves, etc. If you need financial assistance getting the appropriate winter gear for your student(s), please reach out to me at ehuizen@hpseagles.net or at (616)669-6824.

The program culminates with girls participating in a celebratory 5K with other West Michigan GOTR Programs.
Register online at www.gotrwm.org. The early registration period ends on February 1st.
Girl placement day will be February 2nd, followed by late registration for teams that still have space.
Program fee is $125. Financial Assistance is available to all who apply.
Our Spring season will begin in March.
Teams will meet twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday after school at Bauer until 5:30pm.
