Congratulations to our Boys 'A' Basketball team for winning the district championship on Monday night. (Photo Above). We had great seasons from our two boys teams and our girls team. Special thanks to our coaches Micheal Holmes Boys 'A', Rich Dodson Girls 'A' and Jamey Carman Boys 'B' for a job well done.

Our last sport for the school year is Football and we are looking to hire 1-2 coaches. Please contact Mr. Honey (Honeyk@mdusd.org) if you are interested in coaching middle school flag - football.

CASSPP Update to Parents (State Testing)

CAASPP Information

The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, or CAASPP, is the state’s academic testing program. CAASPP is a system intended to provide information that can be used to monitor student progress and ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and career. CAASPP includes computer adaptive assessments in English-Language Arts and mathematics for students in grades 3-8, and 11 and paper-based tests in science for students in grades 5, 8 and 10.

This year, testing dates are as follows:

· CAASPP

o Grade 3-8 May 2 - June 10, 2016

o Grade 11 April 20 – June 10, 2016

· Science Test April 15 -May 19, 2016

*Please see your school’s website for more information on testing dates. For more information about testing options for your student, please visit the Assessment, Research and Evaluation tab of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District webpage at http://www.mdusd.org/departments/r-n-e/CAASPP.

Parent Survey - California Healthy Kids

Every other year, students in the 7th grade are asked to participate in the California Healthy Kids Survey. For 2016, we are asking parents to also participate in the anonymous survey. Click the link below to take the survey.

Social Media and Teens -

Valley View Middle School is hosting "Above the Fray" on Wednesday, April 13th at 6 pm.

"Above The Fray is a first of its kind program, proactively addressing the numerous issues young people face online, like sexting, social media, cyberbullying, gaming, and more. Our goal is to educate parents and teachers about what life is really like online for young people, and to give adults the tools they need to begin meaningful dialogues at home and at school."

This is the same presentation that Sequoia Middle and the Pleasant Hill Education Commission hosted that was extremely well received in September. This is a great opportunity for parents to learn more about the dangers and pitfalls that our students face as they navigate the digital world. Additionally, the presentation focuses on strategies for navigating the relationship over electronic devices between parents and their children.
