The war started after thousands of people were killed when the Pakistani troops launched operation searchlight. Operation searchlight was a planned military operation carried out by the Pakistan army to curb the Bengali nationalist movement East Pakistan in March 1971. Thus creating the Pakistan and Bangladesh war of independence. The war finally ended when India invaded the country and help take out the Pakistani forces.
