Summary
Jonas's community is very simple. Rules are in place ti keep it this way and the only ones that know how the real world is are The giver and soon to be receiver,Jonas. Jonas was chosen to be the next receiver. He will go trough pain and moments of joy. The receiver gets his memories from the wise old man that held all the recent memories. The wise old man wants to be called "The Giver". The Giver transmits his memories to Jonas by placing his hand on Jonas' back. Meanwhile, Jonas helps his family with a new child that named Gabriel. Gabriel was going to be released therefore causes Jonas to leave the community taking the new child with him. Outside of the community Jonas and Gabriel encounter many things such as animals, color, the changing of the weather, but also encounters hunger,danger and exhaustion.
Main Character
The main character, Jonas a 12 year-old boy who is sensitive and polite is selected to be the new Receiver of Memory. Jonas doesn't care much about his new task till he starts his training. As soon as he realizes that people give up their freedom for sameness he becomes angry. He gains knowledge from memories that the Giver gives him. He faces the truth and it bothers him that everyone is so sheltered.

I disliked how the book ended. There should've been just a bit more.
I liked how the book changed. How Jonas' view on his community changed.
