Winter Break Reminder
There will be No School starting on Monday, February 22 through Friday, February 26 for Winter Break.
From Student Body President and Vice President (Tilly Krishna and Chris Davis)
Dear EHS Student Body,
With the recent news of the increase in covid cases in our community, we wanted to reach out to remind everyone to follow COVID guidelines and to address what the potential consequences may be for us as students.
In the last couple of months, there were multiple large indoor gatherings over breaks and on the weekends that ultimately led to various spreads in the EHS community. Please realize what’s at stake if the cases continue to rise. If there are more spreader events, then there is the possibility that we’d have to cancel extracurriculars or potentially go remote. This is obviously not what we want. As students, we know that this year has been hard enough being hybrid and having restricted activities, so please, in the future and over February break, think about your classmates before making decisions that could take away from this school year even more and that could have life or death consequences for some families.
We, as a student body admire and look up to our health care workers for all that they are doing to protect us and for the sacrifices they are making to make sure we are all safe, so we must make sure that we are doing our part to keep our community safe as well. We ask everyone to please think about your classmates over February break, and decide if it is really worth it to attend or host an indoor gathering. We understand that this year has been hard, and we understand that spending time with your friends is important to many of you, but we hope you all realize there are real consequences of gatherings without COVID precautions and we hope that you’ll do your best in the future to socialize in a safe way.
Profile of a Graduate
Mythili Krishna; selected to the USSYP and receives scholarship
Congratulations to Mythili Krishna who has been selected as one of only two students to represent Vermont as a delegate to the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) to be held online this year, March 14 – 17, 2021. Mythili will also receive a $10,000 college scholarship!
The USSYP was founded in 1962 through Senate Resolution and each year two of the highest-achieving students from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education system overseas are selected through an extremely competitive merit-based selection process held at the state departments of education nationwide.
Participate in a Senior Capstone Project!
Hello class of 2021,
We are the 50th graduating class from this building. For my capstone project I am surveying alumni from class 1971 as well as our class and hope to share my findings with local news outlets. Names will not be used when sharing and all answers are private.
Please fill out this poll about your overall experience at Essex High School. I know this year has been different, but please try to fill this out while considering your overall high school experience.
Favorite or Current Book Selfies
We’re planning to put a photo of a community member with their favorite (or current) book in each newsletter. If you’d like to join this “book share”, please send Arielle (Hornets@ewsd.org) a photo of yourself or your family member with the book cover visible. If you’re camera shy, it’s totally ok to just send a photo of the book cover to Hornets@ewsd.org. We’re excited to get great book recommendations!
