October News!
La Porte Elementary
Greetings Leopard Families,
This coming Friday, October 7th, there is no school for students. However, teachers will be reaching out to you (if they haven't already) to set up parent conferences. We hope that you take the time to come meet your child's teacher, face-to-face, and learn about their progress and future goals. I truly believe that the school and the families need to be a team to ensure every student's success!
Looking forward to continued greatness, Karen Lawley
Principal, LaPorte Elementary

Ms. Horelka's Counselor's Corner
Our character trait for October is Responsibility. We will be focusing on students making the right choices and realizing how their actions not only affect themselves but others and the world. I look forward to seeing all the ways our La Porte Leopards are modeling this important trait for their teachers, classmates and everyone else.
I truly believe in the power of positive, trusting relationships and creating an environment where students feel safe and connected. If you need assistance at all, please reach out to me. My email is horelkad@lpisd.org and my phone number is (281) 604-4764. As part of the assistance we can offer, we are very fortunate to be partnered with the Houston Food Bank for a Backpack Buddy Program. They will provide a bag of food every Friday to students in need. Please call or email me and I can send you the paperwork to get started.
Notes from Nurse Hanks
Health Screenings will take place this week. If your student wears glasses, please be sure they bring them to school.
Students are required to undergo a risk assessment for Type 2 diabetes at the same time the district screens students for hearing and vision issues or for abnormal spinal curvatures. (Page 75 of the Student Handbook) If your student does not pass one of these screenings, a referral letter will be sent home in an envelope addressed to the guardian. Please contact the school nurse with any questions regarding screenings, referrals and or available community resources.
