Book Review on "I Am Malala"

By Logan Van Gorder

I Am Malala is a book about the story of a girl named Malala Yousafzai who stood up against the Taliban to fight for girls education. The story starts with Malala's father Ziauddin Who loved education and wanted to start a school. He was really poor and he got his school and then Malala was born in 1997. Malala was the top student in her class when she was 10 and is also when the Taliban came. Then radio Mullah happen which the host of the radio is an evil leader named fazullah and also had school bombings happen. After that Malala then started to give out speeches for her rights and other rights for education with the help of her father. Malala's father said "You are a child and its your right to speak".(Malala's father 117).Later in 2009 they had to abandoned there town because how violent it was getting and then taking a lot of public interviews. When she returned to her home her father and Malala went back to the school and found out it was a camp for the Taliban or Pakistan army. Malala was then shot on the school bus in the head and nearly survived as the doctors reconstructed her skull. Malala now lives in Birmingham,England where she is safe.

Malala's Traits

Malala is a very kind girl who is very nice, smart,Intelligent, and also caring. Malala's physical attributes would be black long hair, black eyes, skin is white and eyes are hazel. Malala's habits would be studying and cricket. Hidayarullah said "Malala was a lucky girl."(Hidayatullah 44).

Character vs society is the type of conflict for this book. The Taliban took away girls education and Malala needed to do something about it. Malala's father said "why don't they want girls to go to school?"(Malala's father 96).So she decided to do public speeches to stick up for girls education.

Theme of the story

I think the theme of the story is that to stand up in what you believe thats right the reason i believe this is the theme is because Malala's father said" Any organization which works for peace, I will join. If you want yo resolve a dispute or come out from conflict, the very first thing is to speak the truth. If you have a headache and tell the doctor you have a stomachache, how can the doctor help? You must speak the truth. The truth will abolish fear."(Malala's father 115).

Textual Evidence

Malala said "I know you see everything, but there are so many things that maybe sometimes, things get missed , particular now with the bombing in Afghanistan. But I don't think you would be happy if you saw the children on my road living on a rubbish dump. God, give me strength and courage and make me perfect because I want to make this world perfect. Malala."(Malala 72).The reason why this is my favorite quote is that it shows that Malala cares not just herself but everybody around here and she wants to make things right.

Book Review

I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars because it has a lot of detail and it is a very emotional story.Another reason i give this book this grade is that described all the characters and it really showed how she felt in multiple situation's.The last reason is that the story shows a lot of life lessons that people can learn when malala make's mistakes she tells the reader that I have learned my lesson from this.
