Principal's Message
ELK Family,
SUCCESS+
On Wednesday, November 8th we will begin our SUCCESS+ schedule. What is SUCCESS+? It is a schedule specifically designed to provide additional intervention time for students in the area of Algebra 1, English 1 and English 2. Students needing intervention will report to their current subject assigned teacher and build upon relevant SKILLS. Students not needing intervention in these three subjects will be in purposeful and/or leisure reading and writing sessions within their 7th period block. We will run this schedule every Wednesday. How are we able to build this into the schedule with our current start and dismissal times? Class periods will be shortened by 5 minutes on this day and the SUCCESS+ block will be :45 minutes in length.
A few of the examples of reading and writing during this time can be a favorite book or novel, article, magazine/periodical, AP reading, essay or journal writing, blogging, or reading a student selected E-book on the Chromebook. High school students have extremely busy schedules and we feel this dedicated time will be invaluable for what many students need and/or love to do.
The SUCCESS+ initiative not only provides support for Algebra 1, English 1 and English 2, but is just one of many important commitments toward our #1 Goal. Please take some time and talk to your child about this commitment and its impact.
Thanks for your support!
Go ELKS!!

Attention Freshman Parents
Freshman Parents
It is that time of the year to review (or create) your student's four-year graduation plan. Your student created a plan with their 8th grade counselor last year. We want to revisit that plan with you and your student to make sure everything is still okay. Please give your student’s house office a call to schedule a meeting with the counselor. The meeting should take about 30 minutes. We have a variety of times available. Call soon to schedule yours. Meetings begins Monday, November 6th.

9th Gr Football
The BHS 9th Grade Red team played its best game of the season Wednesday afternoon against Arlington Heights in a 38-0 victory in Fort Worth.
QB Chris Cook led the way for the offense, accounting for three touchdowns on the day. His first score was an 18-yard pass to WR Jack Maynard; he also hooked up with WR Devin Richerson on a 24-yarder with just three seconds left in the 1st half. Cook also scored on a 1-yard keeper early in the 2nd quarter. RB Adrien Moreno tallied his first career score on 1-yard run in the 4th quarter.
The Elk defense also found its way into the end zone, as CB D.J. Howe scooped up a fumble caused by OLB Blasé Gentry and rumbled 47 yards for his first career touchdown.
Cook scored twice on two-point conversions; Richerson and RB Taylor Branch added two-pointers as well.
With the win, the Red Team is now 5-3-1 on the year, and 3-2-1 against District 9-5A opponents. It will finish its season on Thursday, November 9th, against the Crowley Eagles. Kickoff is set for 5:30 PM at Eagle Stadium in Crowley.
The BHS 9th Grade Black Team rode a dominant running game to a 40-20 district win over the Arlington Seguin Cougars Thursday night at Burleson Stadium.
The Elks offensive line turned in one of its best performances of the season, helping both RB Jarrett Austin and RB Gabe Sanchez to 100-yard efforts. Sanchez tallied 109 yards on 12 carries, and also contributed a pair of two-point conversions. Austin tacked on 202 yards on just 10 carries, and scored touchdowns on runs of 9, 99, and 59 yards, respectively. He added a pair of two-pointers, as well.
QB Ethan McBrayer accounted for 2 touchdowns on the night, the first a 30-yard pass to WR/CB Aswan Bonner in the 1st quarter. McBrayer also punched in a 3-yard keeper in the 2nd quarter, then added a two-pointer on the very next play. Bonner finished the night with 56 yards from scrimmage on just 4 touches.
Bonner also made big contributions on defense, recording both an interception and a fumble recovery. ILB Lukas Williams chipped in a sack and a forced fumble.
With the win, the Black Team is now 6-3 on the season, and 3-3 in District 9-5A play. It wraps up its season on Thursday, November 9th, against the rival Crowley Eagles. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM at Eagle Stadium in Crowley.
JV Football
The JV traveled to Arlington Seguin and took home a victory 22-20. Nick Lott recovered a late fumble by Seguin to help secure the win. The defensive line was top notch almost the entire night leading the way for the Elks.
Nyke Martin was able to overcome a couple of interceptions to lead the Elks offense. Martin ran for two touchdowns and threw a 55 yard touchdown pass to Christian Doss.
The Elks close out the season next Thursday against Crowley here at Elk Stadium at 6:00.
