Next Week's Set List
Week at a Glance/Skills for the Week:
CRAFT/ READING – Students are working very hard with their Number the Stars projects, and they will be displayed on our bulletin board next week. Please stop by to check them out! We are also practicing test-taking strategies, prompt-writing, and constructed responses to prepare for ISTEP+ which begins MARCH 2nd!
WRITING – Students continue writing fictional narratives. We are using mentor texts to help us improve our writing. Students have set individual goals for their narrative writing this quarter based on their 1st quarter rubric and feedback. Ask your child what his/her goal is and how they are working to improve it. Young Author books will be published MARCH 24th.
MATH – We will begin Unit 9. In this unit, students work with coordinate graphs, extend their understanding of area, and develop a formula for volume. We will also practice constructed and extended responses to prepare for ISTEP testing which begins MARCH 2nd
SPELLING – Students who have an average spelling grade above 90% will no longer need to take spelling tests. Otherwise, Unit 21 is on Thursday, 2/26. Core words are: piece, today's, watch, floor, and among.
SCIENCE – With the 2 hour delays, we had to postpone our engineering project. Next week, students will get a chance to apply their knowledge of the engineering design process to make their own filters with a variety of materials. They have completed the ASK and IMAGINE portion of the process. Next up is the PLAN and CREATE stages! They are having so much fun with this unit.
SOCIAL STUDIES – I promise we will return to SS after ISTEP! :)
TIPS – Students will practice test-taking strategies to prepare for ISTEP.
