NOVEMBER NEWS
Mark Your Calendar: November 23 - 25 No School Thanksgiving Vacation
Cold Weather: The cold weather is quickly approaching. Please remember to send jackets, hats, and mittens. When we have snow then children will need to wear snow pants and boots to keep them warm and dry as possible.
Inclement Weather/emergency closing: This form was sent home in October. Please be sure to return the form to school. You never know when the first storm may hit! School closing or early dismissals are announced on the radio and TV stations. You may also check cancellations online at www.cancellations.com. Just type "Oconto Falls Area Schools" in the "partial name" box. Abrams Elementary is part of the Oconto Falls School District.
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
I am so excited about our new newsletter format. I love the look and how we are able to get this out to you so you have the information right at your finger tips no matter where you are. The office staff did a great job with this one and I look forward to seeing future editions.
Just a reminder for morning drop off and afternoon pick ups: if you need to come into the building to bring your child in or pick them up at the end of the day, I ask that you please park in a stall. The circle is for drop offs only. This is done for safety reasons and to keep this drive way open for moving or emergency vehicles.
Report cards are just around the corner. Each student will receive a report card 3 times a year. The report card is one tool we use to communicate with parents. This tool is meant to let you know where your child is at when we look at specific learning targets and goals for each trimester and each grade. Teachers do all they can to adjust lessons to fit all student needs. Please take time to review the report card when it comes home and ask questions if you have them.
Below is a link for a Summer School survey, please take a moment to answer our survey.
Have a great rest of November and always remember to contact me if you have questions, comments, concerns or celebrations.

What's Happening At Abrams?
Operation Pride for Patriots!
Operation Pride for Patriots drive took place November 1 - 11. The Oconto Falls School District, with the American Legion Auxiliary, ran a collection drive for the Patriot Guard RIders who honor our American heroes. Their Mission of Hope and Goodwill helps homeless veterans, and those at risk of becoming homeless, with household goods, clothing, cleaning supplies, bath towels, kitchen items, sheets/bedding, gently used furniture, new/unopened hygiene products, hats, jackets, gloves, boots, shoes, and general household items. Monetary donations were also accepted. Donations were accepted at Abrams and Oconto Falls Elementary Schools, Washington Middle School, and OF High School. We would like to thank all those who contributed to this wonderful drive and especially to Mrs. Jackie Rochon for her time and dedication to organizing this event! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT of our veterans!
5K - 5 Holiday Concert: The student's are practicing and learning the music for the holiday concert. Excitement is in the air...our holiday concert is almost here! There will be two performances on Thursday, 12/15/16 at 9:30 AM & 1:30 PM. All students in grades 5K - 5 will perform at both shows. However, to keep the crowd size down we are asking that families whose last names begin with N-Z attend the morning show at 9:30, and the families whose last name begin with A-M attend the afternoon show at 1:30.
Notes from the Office
School Dress Up Days:
11/18/16 - Camo/Blaze Orange Day
11/22/16 - Stuffed Animal Day
Thanksgiving Break: Please note that this year's upcoming Thanksgiving Break includes Wednesday, November 23rd. In the past we have seen a high absentee rate due to deer hunting and families traveling for Thanksgiving. So, this year it is included with the break. We wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!
Abrams Family Tree: Once again this year we would like to bring back our Abrams Family Tree: decorating project. Every family will receive a blank ornament on November 22. It will be sent home with the youngest child in your family. If you didn't receive one, or if it was misplaced or lost in transit, or if your family situation would be better served by doing two separate ornaments, please send a note to school and we will send you another ornament to decorate.
This is NOT a contest. There are no prizes. We would simply like to have every family represented on our Abrams Family Tree. Be sure that your name is prominently displayed on one or both sides of the ornament and the rest is up to you. The ornaments can be brought to school any time after December 1st. They will be returned to you on December 22nd, so that your masterpiece can be proudly displayed on your own tree at home. Thanks for helping out and taking time for this family project.

BREAKFAST ANYONE?
Mornings can be really crazy! The alarm doesn’t go off; the kids don’t want to get up; there’s no time to eat breakfast before the bus comes, or they’re just not ready to eat. Or maybe your teenager grabs a can of soda and a candy bar on the way to school. If this sounds like your house, we have good news for you. Breakfast is available at school! Take advantage of this option to ensure your child eats a nutritious breakfast. Recent studies show a link between nutrition and learning. A nutritious breakfast helps students be more alert so they can actively participate in class. Breakfast has vitamins and nutrients for a strong and healthy body.
Breakfast at school is affordable, too. A full breakfast costs less than convenience store items. Breakfast at school is only $1.95. If you qualify for free and reduced price meals, you also qualify for free or reduced price breakfast with no additional paperwork. Reduced breakfast is only $.30 per day! Nowhere else will you find a balanced breakfast at such a low cost. So take advantage of this opportunity to start the day on the right foot.
Also a reminder that Free and Reduced Meal applications can be filled out anytime throughout the school year. If you think you may qualify or had a loss in income, feel free to fill one out. It not only benefits the child but also benefits many school programs. If you have questions regarding an application, questions about food service or your family’s account, please feel free to call me, Amanda Sonnenburg, Food Service Secretary, 920-848-4466 ext. 3, or email me at amanda.sonnenburg@of-ps.org. I am in the office from 1:30-3:30, Monday through Friday.
