Picture Day
Picture Day is Friday!!! See the flyer below for more information. Retake day is October 19.
Do Not Hold the Door
As much as we teach our children to be kind, we are going to ask that you please do not hold the door for anyone that may be coming to the school behind you. We need each and every family to call into the office before being permitted into the building. Also, if you are right behind someone, please make sure that you also notify the office and are given permission before just following someone inside. Of course it would be a lot easier for all of us if the doors were open and none of this needed to be in place, but for the safety of our students and staff, we have these precautions in place, so it's important that we utilize them as intended.
Dot Day
Dot Day is Friday, but since picture day is Friday, we are celebrating on Thursday. Our Apex Fun Run is also on Thursday, so we encourage students to wear their APEX shirts, and if they have something with dots, they can wear that under their shirt.
Walkers Without
Extra Set of Clothing
The nurse has requested that every child carry an extra set of clothing in their backpack. Accidents can happen to students of all ages. We try to have extra clothing when students need it, but it's impossible to have all of the different sizes that we may need. I know that often we think about students having accidents as wetting their pants, but we have students that need a change of clothes for spilling something at lunch, getting wet or muddy at recess, or even wardrobe malfunctions. This could save your student from missing a lot of time out of the classroom and you from making a trip to the school some day to drop off a set of clothes.

H.O.P.E FOOD BAGS
Each Friday the H.O.P.E. Packs Program offers a weekend bag of food for children who meet one of the following requirements:
a) your child has received a H.O.P.E. Pack in the past, or
b) your child has been eligible for free or reduced lunch, or
c) your household income is low.
The food is intended to be kid-friendly, easy to prepare, and to supply supplemental food over the weekend. The bags are not to be opened until your child gets home.
To sign up for this free program, contact Mrs. Conley, School Counselor at Sycamore Creek Elementary School. She can be reached either by phone: (614) 834-6215 or by e-mail: Dawn_Conley@plsd.us.
This program is not the PLSD Food Service program. This is a supplemental food program offered by Violet Baptist Church and they get their food from Mid Ohio Food Bank
SEPTEMBER CHARACTER TRAIT: RESPONSIBILITY
Here at Sycamore Creek, we have been learning about RESPONSIBILITY - what it means and how we can be RESPONSIBLE students and citizens!
Learning happens best when it is done both at school and at home. Below are some ways that you can help your child continue to learn about the theme of RESPONSIBILITY through practicing it, talking about it, and/or reading about it!
Practice it: Help your child practice responsibility by giving him/her special jobs! Let your child pick a special chore each week that they can be responsible for. Let them carry the groceries, wipe the counters or feed the pet!
Talk about it: Here are some discussion points to help you talk about RESPONSIBILITY with you child
What do you think responsibility means and why is it important?
Tell me about a time when it was hard to be responsible.
What is a way you would like to have more responsibility at home?
What are your responsibilities in the classroom and in our community?
Read about it: Here are some books to help you learn more about RESPONSIBILITY

THERAPY DOGS ARE COMING SOON:
Leo and Tucker are registered therapy dogs and members of Therapy Dogs International. Their handler is Sandy Weber, who has lived in Pickerington for 45 years and has been a part of SCE’s Therapy Dog Program for 7 years.
The team will be providing support to students at Sycamore Creek Elementary on Mondays, beginning September 18.
The dogs work with students to help with their emotional health. They work with students one-on-one, in a small group, and sometimes even visit an entire classroom.
If your student has a fear of dogs, allergies, or another reason why you would like to opt them out of this program, please contact Dawn_Conley@plsd.us or call 614-834-6215.

Panorama
The Panorama window is September 25 - October 13 for our fall SEL survey administration. Please plan to promote and complete the surveys within this timeframe. We are hoping for another set of
excellent response rates to inform our SEL programming and PBIS goals.
Please see the attached Panorama SEL Survey Letters. Make sure to share these opt-out letters and survey links in your building newsletters. Parents/guardians of students in grades 3-12 will receive a message through Talking Points to check your building newsletter for information on the fall Panorama Surveys.
If parents/guardians choose to opt-out, they should do so by September 22. Please keep this information at your individual buildings.
