FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Greetings Madison Families!
We have officially completed our first semester of the school year. Being that February is a month filled with friendship, and positive Husky energy, I would like to wish our entire Husky Family a Happy Valentine’s Day!
Today marks the start of Black History Month. Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. During this month, we plan to celebrate those individuals that paved the foundation for us to continue to build on. Our Equity team has created a list of words students will learn about during the month of February; words included are Justice, Equality, Acceptance, Diversity, Tolerance, and Bravery. Please join us by having discussions with your child(ren) about the meaning of each word and how we demonstrate them in our daily lives.
Last month students completed iReady Winter Diagnostic. In reading, 58% of the school made progress towards their typical growth and 54% of students made progress towards their typical growth in math. Individual student growth reports will be included with progress report cards. We will be hosting a school-wide data meeting for teachers to identify our school’s strengths and weaknesses and develop strategies for students who need support. We will readjust our roadmap for success to ensure students make it to the finish line (which is a year’s growth). Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions regarding the growth they made during semester 1 on iReady.
Our families continue to be essential partners in our school success while we maintain a laser focus on student learning and well-being. We offer our sincerest thanks for your support and encourage you to reach out to us and/or your child’s teacher with questions, concerns, or feedback.
In Partnership,
Dr. Jessica Corneille
Principal
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
On Monday, February 14th we will have an Online School Wide assembly on anti-bullying. See below for more details about the assembly. In addition, Mrs. Mahorney (our school counselor) will visit all K-5 classes throughout the year to teach lessons on: Recognizing, Reporting, and Refusing Bullying Behavior.
Allies from Outer Space
Jeepers creepers! The aliens are coming to school, and they never shower! At least that's the gossip when an alien spaceship makes an emergency landing on earth. While waiting for repairs, the alien queen onboard sends her daughter to the local school with a mission: to find out if humans are intolerant of differences and if they use their technology to bully others. Will the students at Galaxia Elementary treat Princess Komodo with respect despite her tail and webbed fingers? Or will their bullying behavior force the queen to take drastic measures against bullying and wipe out the earth's technology for good?
EDUCATION GOALS:
- Recognizing, Reporting & Refusing Bullying Behavior
- Accepting Differences and Confronting Prejudice
- Using Technology Responsibly
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION BEGINS IN MARCH
Do you have a child who will be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2022? Registration begins on March 7, 2022. You can complete enrollment forms for kindergarten online! A step-by-step parent walkthrough video is also available as a resource.
Dual-language Spanish Immersion Program
The dual-language Spanish immersion program at Emerson Elementary School is an option for fall 2022. Families with children entering kindergarten will have the option to choose the dual language strand. This program gives elementary students an opportunity to complete the Everett Public Schools curriculum in a nontraditional and exciting way by immersing them in Spanish language and culture from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Students in the program will become proficient in both Spanish and English while learning the same curriculum content as their peers outside the program.
Priority will be given to students within the Emerson Elementary School attendance area. If a high number of students apply, a lottery will be conducted to select students. If the class is not filled from those in the Emerson attendance area, an additional lottery from beyond the school attendance area will be conducted.
JOB OPPORTUNITIES!
Everett Public Schools is hiring many positions. Please share with friends and family who may be interested in joining our team. Visit www.everettsd.org/jobs for jobs posted and how to apply.

3. Log out – especially after using shared computers
4. Mix up passwords – use different passwords for different apps and websites
5. Avoid clickbait – avoid quizzes and random questionnaires
