Stamp Act

  • Was passed down by Parliament of Great Britain
  • This is a act that imposed tax on the people
  • This is also when colonies produce printed materials, they are to be on a paper stamped. For ex. (newspaper, playing cards)
  • The stamp have to be paid in British currency

Colonist Reaction

  • The Colonist said there is no need for taxes for the military, because their are no foreign enemies.
  • The Stamp Act was unpopular, was consider violation of their rights.
  • There was local protest group lead by colonial merchants
  • Soon the the stamp act was retracted and tax was never effectively collected
