AP Updates for Students and Parents
Free Score Reporting
All students, especially seniors, should go into their AP portal at: myap.collegeboard.org, and choose the schools they want their free, AP scores sent to. There will be no answer sheet to do this on this year, so it is best done now before the tests are given.
Cancellations
College Board is allowing the cancellation of AP exams with no fee attached. Before cancelling check out the review sessions offered by College Board on You Tube so that students can get extra AP review. If you think these sessions might help, you can wait to cancel. You can find the sessions here: https://www.youtube.com/user/advancedplacement.
Once you’re sure you want to cancel, a parent should e-mail Mrs. Bagnick at lbagnick@cbsd.org.
Exam Timing and Conflicts
College Board has scheduled all exams so that there will be no two tests administered at the same time. Each test will require a 5 minute set up and a 45 minute testing period so there is potential for a student to have three tests in one day. If a student chooses not to take all exams in one day, any exam not taken will be pushed out to the student on the alternate testing day. It is recommended that students take exams on the first testing date, whenever possible, in case of a technical problem. That way they will have the opportunity to take the alternate exam given in June.
Student Surveys and Exam Preparation
Student should make sure to check their e-mail. This week, students will be receiving an emailed survey from College Board. The survey will ask students to report their AP plans and should be completed whenever possible. Also, College Board will be sending out e-mails containing informational and video demonstrations of set up for test day. COLLEGE BOARD UPDATE REGARDING SATs
The College Board announced last week that the next administration of the SAT on June 6, 2020 has now been cancelled. Additional details from their press release include:
- If it’s safe from a public health standpoint, there will be weekend SAT administrations every month through the end of the calendar year, beginning in August. This includes a new administration in September and the previously scheduled tests on August 29, October 3, November 7, and December 5.
- To replace canceled SAT School Day administrations this spring, the College Board will offer the SAT in schools this fall. Almost all of College Board state partners and many of its district partners have expressed interest in providing SAT administrations during the school day later this fall. This is an important opportunity for the many students who take the SAT for free as part of state- and large district-sponsored programs. Specific information about state and district testing will be shared with our partners in the coming weeks so they may create their testing plans for students.
- In the unlikely event that schools do not reopen this fall, the College Board will provide a digital SAT for home use, much as the organization is delivering digital exams for three million Advanced Placement (AP) students this spring. As with at-home AP Exams, the College Board would ensure that at-home SAT testing is simple; secure and fair; accessible to all; and valid for use in college admissions. Like the pencil-and-paper test, a digital, remote version of the SAT would measure what students are learning in school and what they need to know to be successful in college. The digital, at-home SAT would build on the organization’s experience over the past year of delivering the SAT digitally in schools in several states and districts. While the idea of at-home SAT testing is new, digital delivery of the test is not.
