What is skin cancer?

Skin cancer is the abnormal growth of skin cells.

This cancer has 3 main types:

  • Basal cell skin cancers
  • Squamous cell skin cancers
  • Melanomas

What causes skin cancer?

Since your skin is the biggest organ in the body, and covers just about every part of it, it can pretty much spread anywhere, this makes it difficult to control. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the number one cause of skin cancer. UV light from tanning beds is just as dangerous, also sunlight during the winter months is just as dangerous as sunlight during the summertime.

Treatment for skin cancer

Treatments include surgeries that are used to remove the entire growth. For small lesions you might ant to try Electrosurgery. Radiation, the x-ray beams are directed at the tumor. Chemotherapy cream, topical medications, laser surgery.

Survival rate

For early stage skin cancer that is located near where it started over 5 years, the survival rate is 98%. The survival rate for skin cancer that has spread to other parts of the body is 16%-63%.
