Mid-August Update
Mid-August has arrived and with it, the back-to-school countdown has begun. Our Monroe office reopens on Monday (8/15), and our official start to the 2022/2023 school year is now less than four weeks away. After a summer of constant preparation, excitement is building and we dream of upcoming opportunities like Popsicles on the Playground (8/17), Meet Your Teacher (9/1) and our first day of school for First through Fifth graders (9/7). "Take Flight" was our mindset as we worked together to launch into a new year. Across the coming months, we look to "Fly Fearlessly" in our collective efforts to ensure that each of our Eagles is able to reach their utmost potential.
Below are a number of mid-August notes in preparation of the coming school year. These include a not-so-academic (but fun) series from Regal the Eagle (our school mascot). Please look for additional updates across the coming weeks, leading to our Opening Day on September 7th.

Summer Adventures of Regal the Eagle
As a school mascot, Regal has had a make a few sacrifices in sticking close to home to take care of our Eagles. Flying was not on Regal's radar until he discovered the power of flight through his summer reading. Growth is never easy and, in taking risks, one can often encounter setbacks. We invite you to follow along as Regal endeavors to take flight and soar this summer.

Who is your child's teacher?
Our Home Access Center (HAC) can help answer that question. HAC provides access to information such as student schedules, teachers' names and emails, attendance, and transportation. As a school, we also use HAC to notify families of their student's teacher assignment before school starts (anticipated date for information upload is 8/31).
If you need access, please send an email to LMS@everettsd.org with your name, student name(s), student ID#, and the school(s) they attend. LMS will respond with your login/password to the email you have on file with the school. For more information, please click here.

Keep Your Brain Sharp Over The Summer
Our equation for staying in good mental/academic shape this summer is 10 + 10 + 20 = Success. To be more specific, 10 minutes of math, 10 minutes of writing, and 20 minutes of reading (each day) are enough to keep our Eagles away from the dreaded "summer slide." We encourage you to stay strong in your summer-long efforts to read, write, and compute as every day counts in preparing for a successful school year ahead. Resources to help include our MOE Library (open Wednesdays from 10:30am to 1:30pm), your local Snohomish County Library, our district's Summer Reading Adventure 2022 and Summer Math Challenge, and daily writing prompts including the 66 listed here. Each provides opportunities to stay engaged, "in-shape," and learning during these remaining weeks.
Remember, 10 + 10 + 20 each day will make a tremendously positive difference when we return in just a few short weeks! Win the Day, Eagles!
Staffing Update
As of this week, we are fully staffed and ready for the coming school year! Below are a few updates related to Team MOE 2022/2023.
- Welcome Back, Mrs. Judy! Mrs. Allix Judy is returning to Monroe as our new Reading/Language Arts Coach. Mrs. Judy taught as part of our team for several years and was well-known and beloved in that role. Last year, she accepted an opportunity to become the Reading/Language Arts Coach at Lowell Elementary. With Mrs. Walkley joining our Fourth and Fifth Grade teams as our 4/5 multiage classroom teacher, Mrs. Judy came home to Monroe and we could not be happier!
- Welcome Back, Mrs. Blaylock! Mrs. Christie Blaylock began her career as an educator here at Monroe, serving as a Paraeducator in our preschool program for several years. This experience fueled a passion within her to become a teacher, and she pursued her Master's Degree in Education, graduating last December. This year, Mrs. Blaylock returns to Monroe as our half-time Physical Education Teacher joining Mrs. Persinger in building our PE Program. Welcome back, Mrs. Blaylock!
- Two additional Paraeducators are joining our team for the coming year. Both are joining Mrs. Lopez in our Primary Achieve classroom. Hiring is nearly complete (not yet finalized), so we will provide additional information related to both of these team members in our future updates.
---
You are a valued part of our Monroe community and we are truly excited to serve you and your family this coming school year. Please enjoy these remaining sunny summer days and look for our next update in two weeks. We look forward to seeing you again soon as we fly fearlessly into the 2022/2023 school year together!
Win the Day, Eagles!
