Road Construction

Brown County Public Works has informed us that at the beginning of April there will be road construction starting from Bridge St (slightly southwest of the school) to Apple Creek Rd (northeast of the school property). This will affect the school entrance and the parking lot entrance. Our area is scheduled for Stage 1. The schedule is weather-dependent and may change due to weather conditions. The work consists of removing existing pavement and replacing it with 4.5" of new asphalt pavement and driveway ends being replaced.

The road will be closed to through traffic, but access to the school and church will be maintained throughout the construction phase.

JDRF Kids Walk and Fundraising Event

I am excited to share that our school will be hosting a JDRF Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes! JDRF is the leading organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. This organization holds a special place in my heart as a mother of a child with T1D. My son, Dennis, was diagnosed at four. He is now a fifteen year old sophomore in high school who has been checking his blood sugar four to five times a day and injecting insulin multiple times a day for eleven years. JDRF gives families like mine hope for a cure.

When your child participates in the Kids Walk, he or she:

  • Learns about T1D, as well as healthy eating and exercise habits (which can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes), through classroom exercises and educational information provided by JDRF.

  • Helps kids with T1D. Supporting JDRF is fun and easy! Here are just a few ways your child can help:

    • Use online tools: With your help, your child can register and create his or her own fundraising webpage to tell others why it’s important to support JDRF and ask for their help. Our website makes it easy to get family and friends involved through Facebook and email. Visit kidswalk.jdrf.org to register and view the video that your child saw today in our educational kick-off presentation. Fundraising online is a great way to learn more about T1D and JDRF, and it’s safe too.

    • Sell sneakers: Ask friends and family to buy paper sneakers as donations to JDRF. Each time a sneaker is filled out, have your child bring it back to school so we can hang it up for all to see!

    • Collect donations: Checks can be made out to “JDRF.” Keep all donations in this envelope and turn them in on the date listed below.

  • Makes a difference in the lives of many! T1D is a lifelong disease that requires people to test their blood sugar and inject themselves with insulin several times a day. There is never a break from T1D. Funds raised support JDRF research and education initiatives that make life easier for people with T1D on the way to a cure. St. Clare School is proud to join JDRF in its work to create a world without T1D. Thank you for your help.

Our JDRF Kids Walk will take place on Monday, April 10. During the Kids Walk, students will celebrate their hard work, get some great exercise, and honor people living with T1D. I hope you are as excited as I am to support our students in this important effort. You can make donations at http://www2.jdrf.org/site/TR?team_id=231677&fr_id=6548&pg=team.

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer at the Kids Walk, please let me know. Thank you for your support, and for choosing St. Clare School for your children.

Win a bike, a GoPro, or an Xbox from JDRF!

Contest rules: All students who send at least 10 fundraising emails through their Participation Center will automatically be entered into a drawing to win either a bike or a GoPro. You get to choose! The drawing for the bike/GoPro will be on Friday, June 30. Each student who meets the qualifications above will receive one entry. You can learn how at http://jdrf3dev.convio.net/site/DocServer/Send_Kids_Walk_Fundraising_Emails_in_Five_Easy_Steps_Fin.pdf?docID=2806.

Safety With Social Media Presentation Was Informative

On Thursday, March 23 Deputy Ehlert from the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department spoke to 30 parents and community members about the risks to our children associated with social media. We learned the warning signs and also which apps to watch out for. If you are interested in the handouts from the presentation, please contact the school office and we will send them home for you. If you are interested in a copy of Deputy Ehlert's presentation notes, contact the school office and a copy will be emailed to you. Due to the content, we will not send the presentation notes home in family folders. Thank you.
