Notes from the Principal's Office
We are so excited to start the first week of our winter activities program. Again this year we are almost evenly split with half of your students heading off to Burke Mountain for skiing and riding. We got lucky and experienced blue skies and some sun for our first trip to the mountain. At the bowling alley students were all smiles as they happily knocked down bowling pins using some very interesting techniques. I always love hearing the chatter of excited students as they return to the building from one of these winter outings. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the winter weather will cooperate and we will be able to do some sledding, skating and broom ball with the students that remain at school. We would like to thank FoNES for supporting our winter program, without their support many of our students would not be able to participate in the Burke Mountain portion of our winter program.
On Wednesday January 10th all OUUSD principals made presentations at the OUUSD board meeting that very generally went over what each school would be seeking to support through the budget in the FY 25 Budget. I encourage you to watch the recording of this meeting. I will be discussing the NES FY 25 Budget at the Community Coffee on February 21st, all are welcome to attend.
My initial budget presentation can be found below. It is a very general overview.

PS: Don't forget our community coffee on January 24th from 9:00-10:00. I will be discussing our Continuous Improvement Plan and students will share what they are learning about.

Positivity Project: Prudence
“Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made. If you want a different result, make a different choice.“ ~Unknown
Dear Families,
This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Prudence. Prudence means you plan for the future and achieve your goals by making careful everyday choices.
Prudence is the ability to do the right thing for the right reason, at the right time. It’s a future-oriented way of thinking that helps a person set goals, make plans, and have the discipline to accomplish them. It is cognitive -- more a strength of the head than of the heart.
Prudence supports effective individual self-management. Whether aspiring for an athletic record, academic grade, or purchasing a car, foresight and planning are necessary. However, even with a plan, long-term goals can only be obtained by overcoming those impulses and desires that steer you away from your goals. Prudence provides the wisdom to know which character strength to leverage, at which time, to achieve your desired end state.
To practice and encourage the character strength of prudence with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you will watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions.
Have a wonderful week!
How do the choices we make help us achieve our goal?
