News from WCS I November 2, 2018
The month of November is here and that always signifies the time for our most passionate assembly at WCS. The Veterans Day assembly is on Friday, November 9, at 12:30 p.m., and our third grade students have been preparing to honor our service men and women from the armed forces. This event is open to the community and we are humbled to honor all veterans under the leadership of our wonderful music teacher, Mrs. Nancy Fothergill.
We have truly amazing students here at WCS with limitless artistic talent. Something that we have been eyeing over the last couple of years has been the development of a professional green screen setup. As we work to transition the Media Center into a Learning Commons, we will be exploring the use of new green screen equipment to support student learning. It is our hope that we can even develop student broadcasts to share some of the positive news and events happening at WCS. Stay tuned!
We would like to thank our PTA for being a continued source of support to our school community. Not only have our volunteers worked to create another amazing Book Fair experience for students, but our teachers have also been treated with a tremendous dinner during Parent/Teacher conferences. You are so appreciated!
As a general update, I presented some initial plans for next year at a recent WSB Budget Workshop on October 25. Of note, we will be gaining back substantial space at WCS and will have the opportunity to restore several of our programs to be delivered inside dedicated classrooms. Band instruction, for example, will no longer be delivered on the stage in the cafeteria. Music, art, Spanish, and Digital Literacy classes will also have classroom space as it stands right now. As we transition to a Grade 5 & 6 school next year, we also are planning to install lockers for all students to access in order to embrace an upper elementary philosophy and to reinvent the climate of the school. You may also remember that we have discussed our traffic situation over the last several years and I am still interested in continuing that dialogue. Although we will reduce our student population next year, I believe that our daily traffic scenarios and physical proximity to Route 111 go above and beyond the metrics of student enrollment. We thank you for your continued patience and support and as always, please feel free to reach out to our main office if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a great weekend!
Welcome Back, Mrs. Torrisi

WHH Food Drive
The annual Windham Helping Hands Food Drive is now in full swing. We are hoping to collect non-perishable items for families in need as we approach the holiday season. Thank you for your continued support of this great organization!
Thank you to one of our third grade teachers, Mrs. Sheehan, for going above and beyond. Mrs. Sheehan purchased two Red Sox championship pennants that two of her students won in class auction. What a great memory!
