Gender
Viola feels trapped because as a women because she knows she would feel as if she could be limited in what she does and she wont be able to be free. She was forced to dress up as a man because in order to work because as a women she would have limited jobs and her work would be limited. Viola gets frustrated because she falls in love with Orsino and she isn't able to admit her love for him because Orsino believes she is a man.In this quote " Say that some lady, as perhaps there is, Hath for your love a great pang of heart as you have for Olivia" (II.IV.87-89) Viola expresses her love to Orsino. Viola gets frustrated because she falls in love with Orsino and she isn't able to admit her love for him because Orsino is clueless of the situation.
Perception
Other characters see Viola or Cecario as a helpful and likable person.Olivia sees her as a male and has fallen in love with her not knowing her true identity and despite the fact that Viola does not feel the same way. Viola sees herself as the Dukes helper who is slowing falling in love with him. In this quote " O, then unfold the passion of my love,
Surprise her with discourse of my dear faith: It shall become thee well to act my woes; She will attend it better in thy youth Than in a nuncio’s of more grave aspect" (I.IV.24-28) Duke Orsino sees Viola as his wing-man, trying to get Viola to express his love for Olivia knowing in a way that Viola has experience with women.
Similarities/Differences
In a way something Viola and I have in common is that we would both go to extreme measures in order to get something we want. Viola has a lot of kindness in her heart which makes her a good person and that is the biggest thing we have in common. We both do other peoples favors because they don't want to do them themselves.
Viola and I are different in many ways. She would dress up as a man to get a job because shes afraid of how different she would be treated. Sebastian gets stepped on by Duke Orsino many times without her realizing because the is in love with him.
Identity
Viola thinks of herself as a strong, independent women. Viola doesn't believe she will be able to be a boy for 2 weeks because she doesn't consider herself to be manly enough. In the film, it shows the struggles of Violas sexual identity because she falls in love with Duke as Sebastian. She sees herself as a women struggling to live in a man's world. In this quote "Just remember, inside every girl, there's a boy. That came out wrong but you know what I mean" (She's The Man) Paul tried to convince Viola that she can do this and is able to play Sebastian.
Gender
when viola wasn't allowed to play in the soccer team because she is a girl, she is forced to be a guy and dress up as her brother to be able to play for the boys soccer team. Viola was forced to be someone she isn't for 2 whole weeks. She believes that the girls soccer team should be allowed to play soccer with the guys soccer team. Viola is trying to demonstrate that girls are just as good soccer players as the boys team and should be accepted. Viola is forced to act as manly teenage guy but fails. Throughout the whole film viola just wanted to be accepted not as boy, but as a good girl soccer player who is able to play in the boys team.
Perception
Others see Sebastian as an odd guy because he has some girl qualities. In the beginning of the film, it is clear that some have doubts about Sebastian's sexuality because of the way he acts. In the film, Duke and his friends see Sebastian as a weird or odd guy that gets no girls until Viola came up with a plan to prove that Sebastian does indeed have girls falling for him in a way to prove that Sebastian is not gay or that he has game. Duke sees Viola/Sebastian as his wing-man to try and help him get together with Olivia.
Similarities and Differences
Viola and I have some things in common. We both believe that guys and girls should be allowed to play together no matter the gender. We would both go to extreme lengths in order to pursue our goals and to be treated equally. Viola and I also have our differences. I would never dress up as a guy in order to play for the boys soccer team. I would fight for my rights in a completely different way. Viola is fearless and is not afraid of doing wild things and is a savage, however I am a goody two shoes that wouldn't even do half the things she did in the film.
