Read Your Little Heart Out

Happy Reading!
Don't forget to Clip your Letter Sounds!
Did you know that there is a right way and a wrong way to pronounce letter sounds? Emergent readers (and beginning readers or struggling readers) sometimes add a vowel sound to the end of a consonant sound. For example; they say /puh/ rather than /p/. Clipping sounds simply means saying the sound for the letter p as /p/ rather than adding the schwa sound /u/ at the end as in /puh/. The vowel sound /u/ has been clipped off the /p/ sound. Please do not let your student add the schwa sound to their letter. If they add the schwa sound to their letter, it will affect how they spell words.
Facts and General Information About Dyslexia
- Poor parenting or lack of educational opportunities
- Poor teaching or type of reading instruction
- Environmental factors
- Visual or hearing problems
- Lack of motivation
- Dyslexia is a lifelong condition that affects people all over the world. The interventions that are taught can have a very positive impact on a person's ability to read and write.
- Contrary to what many people believe, children with dyslexia do not see letters and words backwards. Letter reversals (b/d. p/q), as well as errors in directionality and sequencing of letters within words (was/saw, on/no), are common in young children with and without dyslexia but may be symptomatic of dyslexia after the early grades.
