HORIZON ELEMENTARY - HOME OF THE TIGERS
{LEARNING TO BE LEADERS WITH THE HELP OF A DEDICATED SCHOOL COMMUNITY}
Crutchfield's Corner
Dear Horizon Families,
As our new school year is underway, the Horizon Building Site Council (BSC) will begin it’s important work. Serving on Building Site Council is a great way to become involved in the process of continuous school improvement as we work on district and building goals of strengthening student relationships and academic engagement.
What is a Building Site Council?
· BSCs are made up primarily of
non-employees of the school.
· Schools are required to have active BSCs
that meet a minimum of 4 times a year
(Kansas Statute 72-6439(d) ).
· Make sure there is representation from
varied demographic stakeholder groups.
· BSCs should have a Chair who is a
non-employee.
What does a Building Site Council Do?
· Provide input in the growth process for the school.
· Review and provide feedback on work of the Building Leadership Team.
· Review Needs Assessment, goals selection, action plan development, evidence/data, and analysis of growth.
· Meet FOUR times a year(quarterly)
· One spot on BSC should be occupied by a business/industry representative and one by a non-parent representative. Currently, we are in need of one of each.
If you would like to be a part of our Building Site Council and work alongside a great group of dedicated parents and community members, please contact me by phone or e-mail.

WELCOME TO HORIZON!!
This school year, a number of families joined our Horizon family!
We are so glad you are here! As school counselor, I meet with new students by grade level a few times to help them settle in, and it’s a great time for us to become acquainted with each other. The first time we meet, I give them a building tour, including where they can find Lost & Found and our school nurse. Then, we wrap up our visit in my office, where they meet Fidda and can ask questions about our school. They also receive a few welcome goodies!
Following our initial visit, we then get together a couple more times to play a game to get to know each other better and chat about making new friends. For at least one of these visits, we will have lunch together.
I truly enjoy meeting all your wonderful children! If there is ever anything I can help you with or if you have any questions, please let me know.
Here is my web site with my contact information, as well as information about my groups, programs and Fidda, our school Facility Dog. Horizoncounselor.weebly.com
