Gladiator Greatness!
Senior Valeria Garcia-Pozo is a 2019 Cooke College Scholar semifinalist. She was selected from a pool of 6,200 applicants from across the country.
Seniors Clare Wislar and Kalib Hubbard had artwork published in the Winter 2019 issue of National Art Honor Society News. One of Clare's pieces is featured on the cover (pictured to the right). Read the issue and see their amazing artwork on the NAHS News site.
12 CCHS student-athletes signed letters of intent to begin their college careers. Read more in Online Athens.
Four Central varsity basketball players were named to 8-AAAAA All-Region Teams: Mikaylyn Glover (Region 8-AAAAA Female Player of the Year), Samiha Rittenberry, Toria Smith, and Jaiquez Smith. Senior Arianna Hamilton reached the state level of the Georgia SkillsUSA Competition in the Graphic Communications category.
English and journalism teacher David Ragsdale was named a distinguished advisor by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association as part of The National High School Journalism Teacher of the Year Awards. Read about this honor on the CCSD site.
Senior Andrew Caldwell has been selected as a semi-finalist for the US Presidential Scholars Program.
Sophomore Amanda Ochieng and junior Carlos Garcia were among CCSD FFA students who met with Mayor Kelly Girtz to celebrate National FFA Week and the 50th anniversary of women in FFA. Read more and see a picture from the event in the Athens Banner-Herald.

Clarke Central students attended lectures by Mary Frances Early, UGA's first African American graduate (pictured to the right with freshman Sophia Long), and UGA graduate and journalist Monica Kaufman Pearson. Read more and see pictures at UGA Today.

The CCHS Mock Trial team placed 3rd at the Georgia High School Mock Trial Northeast Georgia Regional Competition at the UGA's School of Law on Feb. 2. Read about mock trial in the Odyssey Newsmagazine's stories "Law of the Land" and "Making Mock Trial."

Central's Governor's Honors nominees were honored at the February 21st CCSD board meeting. Congratulations to Katherine Upchurch (Agricultural Research Biotechnology and Science), Melody Morgan (Music - Woodwind), Marjorie DeMaria (Dance), Shea Peters (Communicative Arts), Casey Pendley (Dance), Alexander Robinson (Social Studies), and Kevin Chen (Engineering).
