Counselor's Corner

Galatia Unit1~Mrs.Hamson

Introducing Mrs. Hamson

I am so excited to begin my position with Galatia Unit 1! My name is Nealy Hamson, and I live in Dahlgren with my husband Corey, and our three daughters Brenna (age 15), Makenna (age 12), and Jenna (age 8). I spent 15 years as a classroom teacher, teaching high school Agriculture and Science. My hobbies include photography, camping and boating with my family. I am really excited to join the Bearcat family and serve both the students and families of Galatia Unit 1. Please feel free to contact me at any time, if I can be of assistance to your child or family.

What does the guidance counselor do?

You may be wondering what services the guidance counselor offers to the school district. Here are a few things that my job entails:

  • Scheduling student classes
  • Testing (PARCC, SAT, etc.)
  • Monitoring Academic Progress
  • College & Career Readiness
  • Counseling
  • Scholarships
  • College Applications
  • Financial Aid (FASFA)
  • Identifying resources for students & their families

Feel free to contact me at the school or via email: nhamson@galatiak12.org at any time if I can assist you or your child in any way.

Sign Up For Text Reminders

This school year I will be using the Remind App as a communication tool for students and parents. Information that is sent out will be grade specific and might include information about standardized testing, scholarships, deadlines, etc. To subscribe, send a text message to "81010" with the code listed below that matches your graduation year in the message:

  • @galatia21
  • @galatia20
  • @galatia19
  • @galatia18

For example, freshmen students and parents will send a text message to 81010 with the message @galatia21 in the body of the message.

Social Media Snipets

I plan to use Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as a way to communicate important information to both students and families. Be sure to follow the Galatia Unit 1 Facebook page, in addition to the Galatia Unit 1 profiles on Instagram and Twitter. This is a great way to stay informed with the most current information about school events, district testing and scholarship opportunities!
