Here's what's happening in MS this week!
February 26, 2018
Dear parents,
Only TWO weeks left for the science fair!
ENGLISH
6th Grade: Due to our interrupted schedule last week, we have cancelled one of our book club sessions. That makes this Wednesday our final one, meaning students need to be finished with their books by then. We will then write a micro-essay on how the main characters of our books have changed, supporting our claims with evidence from the story.
7th Grade: Now that we have finished reading and discussing our book club books, we are working on writing our argumentative responses to them. Last week, we together wrote arguments of judgment about good and bad school mascots. This week, we will write arguments of judgment about the merits of our books, characters, or endings.
8th Grade: Students are writing an essay on prejudice to finish up our unit on The Outsiders. Introductory paragraphs have been written and we will continue to work on the body of the essay. We will also work on editing and revision.
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We took a quiz over migration on Friday and will be moving on to studying about Culture. We will be exploring what culture is and how to describe it. We will also be looking at clues about a “Mystery Culture” to see if we can identify it.
7th Grade: We took a quiz over migration on Friday and will be moving on to studying about Culture. We will be exploring what culture is and how to describe it. We will also be looking at clues about a “Mystery Culture” to see if we can identify it.
8th Grade: We will be completing an in-class review and assessment over the War of 1812. Then, we will evaluate how sectional differences between the north and south served as precursors to the Civil War.
MATH
6th Grade: 6th graders have been hard at work learning how to solve proportions. Next week we will have a quiz on Tuesday on 6.1 & 6.2 and then we will begin learning how to convert within the metric system and customary system.
7th Grade: 7th graders have a module test on Tuesday covering inequalities. We will begin learning how to use MS Excel to help organize our data for the science fair.
8th Grade: 8th graders have a quiz on substitution on Monday. We have one more method to master on how to solve systems, elimination.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: Students will need to have their science fair projects ready to share in class March 6th and 7th before we put them on display during conferences March 8th and 9th. This means this is the last full week they have to work on them! We will also be taking a quiz on the Scientific Method on Wednesday. We’ll be doing some review in class Monday and there are terms to practice linked through Science 6 folder in Google Classroom.
7th Grade: Students only have two weeks left to complete their science fair projects. We will be working on them in class occasionally over the next two weeks but they may have to do some work at home as well. We will also continue our study of plant and animal cells and all the organelles found in them.
8th Grade: Students will need to have their science fair projects ready to share in class March 6th and 7th before we put them on display during conferences March 8th and 9th.
