Campus Ministry Newsletter
September 2017
WELCOME
Campus Ministry is excited to launch a new year and new ways to engage, reflect and build community. We are expanding our interfaith and ecumenical work with the addition of Rev. Scott Adams as our new Assistant Director. We will also offer new opportunities to explore a faith that does justice, including immersions to be announced later this fall.
Throughout the year, we'll continue to provide programming, prayer and worship, and retreat and reflection opportunities rooted in our goals to:
- Develop our Jesuit Catholic tradition, principles and story through the lens of the Ignatian citizenship initiative.
- Foster a culture of inclusion and equity in a diverse community
- Build a community of companions through joint collaboration with all members of the Loyola community.
- Provide personal care for the Loyola community.
- Inspire discerning leaders to take their place in forming a just and humane world.
George, Fr. Murray, Elise, Ms. Li, Rev. Scott, Megan, Fr. Roach, our 24 interns, our 4 GA's, our student leaders and myself look forward to working with and for the Loyola community this year.
Peace and blessings,
Seán Bray

IgnatianQ 2018 hosted at Loyola!
February 9-11, 2018
Loyola University Maryland, Evergreen Campus
In the spirit of our Ignatian call to Cura Personalis and Cura Apostolica, we acknowledge that caring for the whole unique person and for a diverse community is hard work. We wish to look to the future as we focus on building resilience and resistance to expectations that we leave certain identities at the door and push various communities to the fringes. We believe that resilience allows us to step forward as we are, who we are, in our wholeness. This theme calls us, as members of Jesuit institutions, to consider wholeness in a broken society. In these fractious times, this has never been truer.
Information regarding registration and conference details will be available soon.

Think | Pray | Act
THINK
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) [was] a policy that protected from deportation up to 800,000 young immigrants who came to the U.S. as children...The Trump administration has announced it will repeal the [DACA] program in the coming months. As people of faith, we are called to uphold the inherent dignity of our immigrant brothers and sisters, to stand with those marginalized by a broken immigration system, and to recognize the gifts and talents that these young people bring to our communities."
What is the DREAM Act?
With bipartisan support, the Senate has introduced "The DREAM Act, intended to protect immigrant youth who entered the United States as children and know America as their only home. The bill offers qualifying immigrant youth “conditional permanent resident status” and a path to full lawful permanent residency and eventual citizenship. This bill would protect numerous youth, including the estimated 780,000 individuals who received temporary relief from deportation and employment eligibility through the Department of Homeland Security’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The young people S. 1615 seeks to protect are contributors to our economy, veterans of our military, academic standouts in our universities, and leaders in our parishes and communities."
-- Ignatian Solidarity Network
PRAY
God of the journey, God of the traveler, We pray for those who leave their homes in search of new beginnings and possibilities, may they know your presence with them. We pray that those who seek to make a home in this country may find us welcoming and willing to help them find a path toward citizenship, We pray that our legislators, as they craft new immigration legislation may find the wisdom and courage to enact new policies that do justice for our country and for those who would immigrate here. We pray for those who fan the flames of fear and discrimination against the undocumented may be touched with your divine compassion. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen. --The Archdiocese of Chicago
"And do good unto your parents, and near of kin, and unto orphans, and the needy, and the neighbour from among your own people, and the neighbor who is a stranger, and the friend by your side, and the wayfarer, and those whom you rightfully possess. Verily, God does not love any of those who, full of self conceit, act in a boastful manner..." —An-Nisa 4:36
ACT
At Loyola, we are called to care for the whole person and the whole community. Campus Ministry stands in solidarity with and supports DREAMERS, undocumented students in our community and beyond.
Join the Ignatian Solidarity Network & sign on to urge Congress support DREAMERS and to pass the DREAM Act 2017, S. 1615 which was recently introduced in the Senate as a bipartisan effort.
