Principal's Welcome Letter
Dear Staff,
I would like to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year. If I could take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Mrs. Annamarie Dowling-Garrott (Mrs. A or Mrs. D-G for short) and I am so excited to be the new principal of Dos Elementary. I have been in education for 20 years as a teacher and administrator in the Chicago-land area. The majority of my career has been spent in high needs schools and I want to tell you that is where my heart is. I have a strong passion and background working with students and families to persevere though adversity and strive for excellence, both in and out of the classroom.
I hope your summer has gone well and you are excited for the beginning of the new school year. We are anticipating an exciting year as we collectively strive to foster a culture of learning through the core subjects, arts, technology and engaging classrooms. Our goal at Dos Rios is to begin a journey together as a staff and maintain that over the years. We are looking towards stability and longevity.
I look forward to greeting parents and students at Meet The Teacher Night on August 3rd. Mrs. Castro and I will be addressing the parents and students in the gymnasium from 5:00-5:20. After that, they will have a chance to visit the classrooms. Parents who miss the 5:00 address may visit the classrooms first and then be directed into the gym for an encore address at 6:00.
I am very excited to greet all of our students on the first day of school. School begins on Monday, August 7th. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. with all staff on supervisory duty. Homerooms begin at 8:00 a.m. and classroom assignments again will be posted on campus that morning. At this time, parents will be asked to leave the campus so we can start instruction promptly. Union Elementary District is a welcoming district and open our campus for breakfast and lunch for families to eat together. Starting this year, all visitors MUST SIGN IN THE MAIN OFFICE prior to visiting with their child. Instructional time for teachers and students is protected as a top priority, therefore phone calls or conferences with teachers will only be held before school, after school or on your plan.
In order for any classroom or school to be successful, there are 3 key elements that are crucial. They are PROCEDURES, PROCEDURES, PROCEDURES. Therefore, the first 3 days of school we will follow a BoY Schedule to allow appropriate time to establish procedures.
I look forward to continuing the work that has already begun and together, as we support the Dos Rios community, we can soar to new heights. WELCOME to the 2017-2018 School Year.
Principally yours,
Mrs. Annamarie Dowling-Garrott
(aka Mrs. A or Mrs. D-G)
