A weekly update from the West Bloomfield School District
Thank You Teachers! - Teacher Appreciation Week
Thank You Voters! WBSD Millages Passes by 75%!
On behalf of the Board of Education, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to the voters of the West Bloomfield School District on the successful passage of our May 4th ballot proposal with nearly 75% of the votes being cast in favor. Approval of our school district’s non-homestead millage proposal allows the school district to levy the statutory rate of 18 mills on non-homestead property which was originally approved by voters in 2014.
This will generate $691,000 to the General Fund beginning next school year with approximately $8.2 million or about 12 percent of the West Bloomfield School District’s operating budget throughout the remainder of the millage.
I am grateful to the parents, students, and other members of the community who helped us inform residents about the millage proposal. Thank you for helping to make the greater West Bloomfield area an even better place to live and raise a family.
Again, we extend our thanks to the people residing in the West Bloomfield School District for supporting their schools.
WBSD LEGO Legends FLL Robotics Team Celebrate Successful Season
The WBSD LEGO Legends FLL Robotics Team recently ended their season by competing at the Kettering University Remote FLL Qualifier.
Scotch Team members: 5th graders: Hunter DeGrand, Graham Kubiak, Brady May
Roosevelt Team members: 4th graders: Colton Latchaw, Oliver Kohn, Christian Zimnicki
Coaches: Rene Kubiak and Cathi Kohn
The boys built & programmed the EV3 Robot and scored a considerable amount of points in the robot game. Their Innovative Project Design included a custom Tree Run Course and Zipline for Wheelchair Users. They represented WBSD and proudly followed the Core Values set by FIRST LEGO League. They withstood the longest FLL Season in History... through the pandemic & the various curveballs thrown their way.
Following physical distancing, COVID protocols & utilizing creative ways of meeting, this team plowed through the season & made it to a qualifying event. We couldn't be more proud of this group of boys! Way to go LEGO Legends!
WBSD Math Pentathletes Recognized!
Seven Middle School students (In-Person & Lakers Online) participated in the Math Pentathlon Tournament Saturday, May 1st. It's normally in-person, but this was the 1st ever virtual tournament. To our knowledge, they all did fantastic and played with good sportsmanship! We're so proud of them that they practiced every other week since the beginning of November and were able to learn these 2 games via Zoom!
A big Congrats to the following students:

The West Bloomfield Township Main Library and Westacres Branch are open for Phase 3 services.
In Phase 3, our priorities continue to be the health and safety of staff, users and the community at large and providing convenient access to collections of materials in all formats. An additional goal of Phase 3 is providing access to the Library’s public computers, scanners and printers, equipment that we recognize not everyone in our community may have at home. Please see the Library’s website for the latest updates and temporary hours.
Renew or request a library card
Ask at the Main Library Reception desk or the Westacres Branch Circulation desk. You can also continue to renew or request a library card on the Library’s website.
