Planning & Development Newsletter
Volume 3 - Back from Winter Break - January 2019
Message from Dr. Trenton Hansen
Hello JUSD Staff,
The Planning & Development department has been very busy this winter season. Under the direction of the Director of Maintenance and Operations, the M&O team made numerous upgrades throughout JUSD. Everything from carpet installation to upgrading landscape and irrigation systems. Across the district, parking lots were newly painted, sealed and striped. Roofing repairs were made, and sandbags were prepped and placed in time for the rainy season. In preparation for the WASC inspection at Jurupa Valley High School, the M&O department has been working diligently to complete miscellaneous painting projects. They have supported two of our newest Measure EE projects by remodeling and relocating various rooms for staff at Glen Avon Elementary and set up temporary fencing and a playground at West Riverside Elementary.
With the completion of the Ina Arbuckle Modernization and Rubidoux High School Encapsulation Projects and Mission Bell Elementary Modernization soon to follow, we were able to begin a few new projects these past few months, including bringing new public sewer service to Troth Street Elementary, the only school in the district that was on a septic system. We also completed a modification to the Parent Center building that created a new flexible meeting and childcare space, to further enhance our service to the staff and community of parents and students who attend events there.
We also began working on path of travel upgrades at Jurupa Valley High School, improving ADA accessibility on the campus. More excitingly, we began construction at West Riverside Elementary school, commencing the modernization at that site and Glen Avon Elementary is on track to begin construction early this Spring.
We were able to complete as many projects as we have this season with the help and support of many district departments and the school sites. A special thanks to the school site personnel who have personally helped and cooperated with our maintenance and construction projects. Thank you to all JUSD staff and students for your continued support with our projects.
Sincerely,
Dr. Hansen and staff

It is with great pleasure that we announce the Ina Arbuckle Modernization project is substantially complete. The Library/Media Center new construction and furniture installation was recently completed, new landscaping at the front of the school was installed and the play field inside of the school's track is being hydroseeded. Irrigation in between the classroom wings was installed and a bid to install new planting in those areas will be advertised for installation after the wet Winter months are behind us.

The campus buildings were encapsulated and the 1000 and 1200 wing modernizations are substantially complete. The office also received new blinds, tinting, flooring, and furniture during Winter Recess. The CTE Video Production Program received the final pieces of updated equipment that will boost opportunities for the program's success, thanks to the architect's state-of-the-art design of the new video production studio spaces.
Upcoming Measure EE Construction Projects
Jurupa Middle School Modernization - Project in Schematic Design Phase
District planning staff are working with the site and project architect to complete plans to modernize the campus. Plans in development include potential new construction of a new administration/classroom building, due to anticipated residential growth, as well as modernization of the existing classroom wings.
Other Construction Projects
Parent Center - Child Care Project
The scope of work for this project includes modifying the existing south training room to provide a separate enclosed room that can double as an additional meeting, training or childcare space. Two new single-use restrooms were also constructed within the existing space. Work started during Thanksgiving Recess and is finishing this week.
Del Sol Academy Photo Session
After various requests from local school districts to tour Del Sol Academy, the project architect scheduled a photo session with Lawrence Anderson Photography to capture the use of their newly designed 2-story K-8 STEAM Academy. The photographer captured campus life while highlighting the surrounding imagery about science, progress, and inspiration. Del Sol Academy is quickly becoming a template for other educational institutions thanks to great care towards each detail put forth by the entire project team.
