A Note From Your Principal
Now that the new year is in full swing, it is time to start thinking about the next school year. We will have lots of information nights coming up. If you are a current 4th or 5th-grade family and would like more information about the program for next year, I will be holding meetings in the Multi both Monday 1/13 night at 6:00 and Tuesday 1/14 at 6:00 pm. If you would like to hear about our new accelerated / explorer program for our incoming 4th graders, please come to the multi Wednesday night 1/15 at 6:00 pm. If you are interested in our Middle school, Petaluma Accelerated Charter please come to the Multi Thursday night 1/16 at 6:00 pm. There will be translation available for Wednesday and Thursday night. Don't forget you still have the opportunity to learn more about our school on our tours listed below in our important dates section.
We have so many exciting opportunities for our students coming up. Science challenge, Kindness week, talent show auditions and play practice. It is so important to make sure you are checking social media and our website for updated information.
Intercultural Cafe on Wednesday
Join us on Wednesday for this month’s Intercultural Cafe. Find us by the main school door after morning drop off (8:30 am). The Family Engagement team will provide complimentary coffee, info about the last PTA meeting and a great opportunity to build community. This is a bilingual event and all McKinley/PACS families are invited.
McKinley MAP Information night this Wednesday
Join us to learn more about McKinley’s new Accelerated/Explorer program for grades 4-6 on Wednesday at 6:00 pm in the Multi-Room. Translation will be available. While there will be a few more tour dates this year, this is the only Informational night scheduled for this program.
Sign up for the Talent Show Tryouts Now! Registration deadline and tryouts this week!
Registration for the Talent Show Tryouts closes on 1/15 (4th-8th grade) and 1/20 (TK-3rd grade).
Tryouts will take place on 1/16 (4th-8th grade) and 1/23 (TK-3rd). Here is all you need to know to sign up for the tryouts.
McKinley PACS Informational night this Thursday
Interested in the PACS program? Join us for an informational night on Thursday at 6 pm in the Multiroom. Translation is available. For future tour dates, check this link.
Hurry up! After School Enrichment Winter session enrollment ends this Friday!
Registration for ASE Winter Session ends on Friday, 1/17. Classes will begin on Tuesday, 1/21 and run for 8 weeks. All the information about ASE, including registration options, can be found here. Have more questions? Contact ASE Coordinator, Jessica Servin.
Save the date for our second Intercambio night!
McKinley’s second Intercambio night for this school year will happen on Wednesday, 1/ 22. Plan to come and enjoy a light dinner and an evening filled with opportunities to have fun while building relationships with other McKinley community members of different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Make sure you fill out your Intent to Return letter by 1/24!
In order to effectively plan for next year’s staffing and to get a sense of space at our various grade levels, it is important that we know which students will be continuing their enrollment at our school next year. Please fill out and return this letter to your child’s teacher by Friday, 1/24, 2020. You will also find a copy of the letter in your student’s red folder on Wednesday.

McKinley is giving you the opportunity to contribute to the yearbook in a big way. If you want to participate in this year’s cover contest, read the instructions here. You will also find out how to upload pictures or order a copy of the yearbook. For further questions, email Ms. Alton
Are you taking advantage of the free specialized homework help offered at our local library?
Starting January 14th, the Petaluma Library will be hosting free drop-in Homework Help sessions every Tuesday from 3:30-5:30 through the end of the school year. These are free, open to grades K-12, no appointment is necessary and we have trained volunteer tutors to help with all subjects. Build confidence and succeed in school!
This year we are lucky to have a number of tutors who specialize in math, the most common subject for which students come seeking help. Tutors are usually able to work with students one-on-one. Check our Facebook event here
New Donation Needs for this week.
This list is updated each week. If you keep seeing the same needs listed here, that means we still need that item being donated. Please do help if you can! Any donation, no matter how small, will make a difference for the students. Thank you!
- FRONT OFFICE: the office is in need of baggies for ice and tissue boxes. Thank you!
- MUSIC TEAM: the Music Team is in need of your old recorders! If you can donate an old recorder, please send it in to the office. Thank you for helping the Music program!
- GARDEN PROGRAM: please help the Garden Program by providing an item from this list. It doesn't have to be new. You can bring a similar one you have at home. You may leave it at the office.You can also make a donation to the garden fund instead. For more information, contact our Garden Volunteer Coordinator Michael Day Williams. Thank you!
