VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL GOAL: 'BEING COURAGEOUS"
WHAT: To follow our school value of being ‘Courageous’ – by doing it!
WHY: Courage is important because ‘we all have to do things we don't like sometimes’.
Courage is when you are brave about something you fear.
Everyone is afraid of something or someone - lowering your standards to go along with the crowd should never pass for courage.
HOW: Courageous people believe in themselves. They know who they are and what they stand for.
They have strong values, recognize their personal capabilities, and are confident in meeting the challenges that lie before them.
Courageous people are passionate and purposeful.
SIGNS OF SUCCESS: (See profile sheet)
1) Your courage means being afraid and acting anyway
2) Your courage becomes a habit, a muscle you can exercise
3) You notice every time you do something that you’re scared to do—something your body is telling you not to do
4) You learn to attend to positive signals and to ignore negative ones
5) You find role models of quietly courageous people
6) You continue to learn and accept challenges
KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
It has been great to see all the remote learning happening over the last 9 days of lockdown. A massive thanks to all our parents and whanau for the amazing work you are doing at home as well, we really appreciate your support! Have a look at the bottom of this newsletter to see some of the awesome learning that has been happening!
The Prime Minister announced this afternoon that we will be moving from Covid Alert Level 4 to Alert level 3 as of 11.59pm Tuesday 31st August. This means school will be be open on Wednesday 1st September only for those learners who are unable to stay at home because both parents are required to go to work (and if there is no other person in their immediate or extended bubble who can supervise them during the day).
Vogeltown School will be operating at limited capacity with staff on site. However, we are already well planned with our level 3 protocols.
Our teaching staff will be making contact with you on Monday to clarify with those parents who have already expressed that they will be sending their child(ren) to school at level 3.
There will be some stringent guidelines from the Ministries of Health and Education that we have to consider, and it is likely that this will be different to how we operated the bubbles last year because of the nature of this Delta variant. We are awaiting some of this guidance to arrive over the weekend.
I will be sending out a Memo to the community on Monday with our guidelines and protocols for level 3 updated.
In the meantime, grab a cuppa and have a look at the awesome mahi our learners have been up to!

LOCKDOWN POETRY
Lockdown is yellow like the sun on a bright and shiny day.
It tastes yucky like fried salmon.
It smells like different types of flowers.
It looks like an empty desert without a single person.
It sounds like crickets chirping in the night.
It feels lonely like in a forest.
