The Fort Report

Empathy - Equity - Effectiveness - Excellence

Greetings Fort Daniel Families,

It is so hard to believe that the school year is almost over! It seems that time has just flown by so quickly. It has truly been an honor and a privilege to work with the students, staff, and families of Fort Daniel Elementary. Our school is definitely a sweet place to work and play.

A special thank you also goes to our 2022-2023 PTA Executive Board and 2023-2024 School Council. Also, a big thank you goes out to our amazing PTA Yearbook Committee, Joaquin Jimenez and Joyce Arbelaez-Jimenez! All of you are appreciated for always going the extra mile to support our students. Thank you for your dedicated time, service, and commitment to all of the students of Fort Daniel. On behalf of the entire school, we thank you for your commitment to creating a school we all LOVE!

To end, I hope that you all enjoy the last weeks of school and just know that I am always just a phone call away if you are in need of anything throughout the summer.

Proud to be your principal,

Dr. Tucker

Butterfly Release Day: Thank you 2nd Grade Teachers for providing a fun, informative and engaging experience for our students!

FDES Butterfly Release Day 2023

FDES News Crew for Next Year: Applications Open to Rising 4th Graders!

Fort Daniel Elementary offers fourth graders the opportunity to apply for a position on the News Broadcast Team for the following school year.

The application form opened on May 9th and will remain open until May 19th. Depending on how many students apply, they will work for three to four weeks, and will work in two different positions. We ask the students to make sure they arrive on time to school (7:45) so they have time to complete any morning work and then get to the studio on time. We also expect good classroom conduct and for the students to work well with others. Please email us if you have any questions. We are excited to work with the students in the Broadcast Studio!

Return all Library Books by Monday, May 15!

We have a Pokemon theme this year to encourage and motivate students to return all their library books by Monday, May 15th! If your child has a lost or missing book, you may pay using a debit or credit card on MyPaymentsPlus, or you may send in cash or a check. Thanks so much for your help in getting all our books back to the library so we are ready for the end of the year! Please email us at beth.martinez@gcpsk12.org or melissa.gindlesperger@gcpsk12.org if you have any questions.

Summer Reading at Fort Daniel

We want to partner with you to encourage and motivate your child to read over the summer! Students that complete their summer reading will attend the Summer Reading Celebration Party in late August. At the party, each student will pick a free book, munch on treats, and play games. There will also be a grand prize drawing at the party! Five lucky students will win a plush animal from Minecraft, Pokemon, and other games and cartoons. Your family may choose one of the following ways to participate:

1. Complete the attached “Paint by Number Summer Reading” form and turn it in by August 18th.

OR

2. Log minutes using Beanstack from Gwinnett County Public LIbrary, logging at least 500 minutes. You may register online at gwinnettpl.org or visit a library branch. You may print a copy of the reading log and turn it in by August 18th, otherwise GCPL will send us a list of participating students with the number of minutes that were logged.

Have fun reading this summer! Beth Martinez and Melissa Gindlesperger
