Why National Board Certification (NBC)?

  • Recognized as the gold standard in teacher certification, the National Board believes higher standards for teachers means better learning for students
  • National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) help to strengthen a continuum within teaching spanning all the way from per-service teachers to teacher leaders
  • There is increasing evidence about the positive impact of NBC
  • Schools with many NBCTs have strong professional communities. These schools are characterized by higher rates of teacher morale, retention, and community involvement
  • The presence of NBCTs demonstrates the school's commitment to excellence to students and the entire learning community
