September 2019

Welcome Back!

School resumed on August 20th, and we couldn't be happier to welcome our graduating Class of 2020, as well as the junior, sophomore, and freshman classes.

There have been a lot of changes to the campus over the summer, which will be highlighted in the Construction Updates section below. What remains constant, though, is the commitment that every person on the Samuel Clemens campus, as well as those in SCUCISD and communities at large have for each one of our 2,624 students currently enrolled.

We encourage each of our parents and students to review both the Student Code of Conduct (English/Spanish) and Student Handbook (English/Spanish) to be familiar with expectations and procedures for successful navigation and completion of the school year ahead. And, as always, feel free to reach out to the school with any questions or concerns or kudos. The school telephone number is 210/945-6501.

Welcome New Faculty Members!

The student population isn't all that's growing and changing here at Clemens. For the 2019-20 school year, Clemens welcomed twenty-three new members to its faculty and staff. Some of these are highlighted below.

Traffic Flow

For the 2019 – 20 school year, traffic flow/patterns have been altered. The image at left—and this PDF—demonstrate the intended flow of traffic for the duration of the year. Of significant note:

  • The front circle drive is ONLY for special needs buses and school visitors. Student drop-off and/or pick-up IS NOT permitted in the front circle.
  • Elbel Road entrance/exit behind Lehnhoff Stadium is designated for student parking and school bus drop-off and/or pick-up.
  • Schertz Parkway entrance/exit is designated for student parking and parent drop-off and/or pick-up at the steps near the cafeteria. Cars can then circle through faculty parking to exit via Schertz Parkway in order to avoid congestion with school buses.
  • The Shelton Athletic Complex (tennis courts) remains available for student parking.
  • Reminder that City of Schertz facilities (Playscape, Library, YMCA, City Offices) do not allow SCUC parking. Violators will be ticketed by City of Schertz.

When exiting the campus, please turn right in order to help alleviate traffic congestion.

Changes to Bell Schedule

In addition to the changes due to construction, there have been some changes to the bell schedules at Samuel Clemens. Completed portions of construction have helped open up the campus, making it quicker and easier for students to get from class-to-class. Consequently, the passing periods have been shortened to five (5) minutes in between classes. Additionally, early release days will now have students dismissed at 1:20 PM, rather than at 1:00.

All bell schedules (regular, early release, and morning/afternoon assemblies) have been posted to the campus website for convenient reference. A PDF is linked below.

Open House

Parents of currently enrolled students at Samuel Clemens are invited to attend an open house on Monday, September 9th.

Beginning at 6:00 PM, parents will have the opportunity to move through an abbreviated day in the life of their child(ren), meet teachers, and tour the renovated campus. No appointment or RSVP is necessary.

A schedule for the evening is as follows:

  • 6:00 – 6:07, 1st period
  • 6:13 – 6:20, 2nd period
  • 6:26 – 6:33, 3rd period
  • 6:39 – 6:46, 4th period
  • 6:52 – 6:59, 5th period
  • 7:05 – 7:12, 6th period
  • 7:18 – 7:25, 7th period
  • 7:31 – 7:38, 8th period
